View Full Version : Q: Importing multiple 3ds poses..
jadedchron 02-03-2003, 05:25 AM Hi, I have another program (3d) I am working in. I'm working with characters and animating them using bone setups and such in that program. To my knowledge, I can't export the characters with bone/Ik info so I have to export a .3ds for each frame of movement. Obviously that adds up to 60 some files for just a two second animation. So my question is this- Is there an *easy* way to import all of the multiple 3ds poses into the corresponding frames (or atleast the same position as the last file imported)? using max5 btw. thanks.

What is the other program? There may be an easier way.

poser 5. i was just trying to experiment around with things.. as i'm a max newb. working in poser is rather easy when it comes to the bone situation and all that.

*Involuntary shudder*
I really don't like poser all that much. Ah well... not to worry!:D
My only suggestion at this stage would be to import all the frames and then use the morpher modifier on the first mesh... sort of pose to pose.
I think there is another way to handle poser models in max, but I'll have to get back to you on that one.
As a newbie, it would probably be better (and easier over time) to learn the max bones! It would save you a lot of hassle. Just trying to help.:)

haha yeah i understand . its just a temporary thing til i learn the max bones. from what i've seen they look more visually pleasing (bones) than other apps i've taken a look at. well time to go learn about the morpher mod. thanks.
oh btw.. the poser models are all really hi-res tri meshes.. is there anyway to optimize or lower the poly count.. kinda like turning off nurm surfaces? i know there will be distortion of course with the loss of faces and such.. was just curious. thanks again

There's two poly-reduction tools that I know of in max. One is a third-party plugin (that costs a lot, but is fantastic), called polycruncher. The other is inbuilt (I think! It may come with the w3d exporter). It's called multires. This however, is bad. You won't get consistent meshes for morphing.
