View Full Version : easy shading diamond ... ?
Tchaps 10-08-2006, 04:08 PM Hi, just like to know how making a diamond shading easily.
i mean by easily, not a "so real" diamond glass, but "good" is enough.
In fact i d like to make a ring with 200 dimaond on it and, if i apply what i read on the forum or tuto to make it so real, thats means a render (and reflexion from myself) too long.
So if you have a simple idea to make it...
Thx a lot

Look at this and got the idea
www.lemiere.com/html/tutorials/tutorials.htm (http://www.lemiere.com/html/tutorials/tutorials.htm)
The first most important thing is you must have a diamond model before stimulate its shader. The surface of this object decide the way light reflect and refract
===
With these kind of object, the most difficult thing is the environment for the diamond to reflect and limit the ray. HDRI will help much, but you should find a neutral HDRI for good reflection and refraction

ok thx for the link.
In fact i was looking for a non-caustic render (just simulate the thing), but i think its impossible.
So ill try to make what is on this page

Mr. Stahlberg posted a diamond scene a while ago in one of the forums. I can't remember what, but it might do you well to ask him about it. If I recall correctly, his diamond had caustic effects fake, chromatic abberation fake, so I think it is exactly what you might need.

This is a diamond rendered with the 'L_Glass' shader - (Lobbers Glass)
I've attached a link for the .mb file for those interested (with IBL - HDR map):
