Sarxous,
Welcome to the forum. :) My apologies, I thought I had responded to your thread but it appears I had forgotten. I'm glad to see your work for the 50 Portraits Workshop, and would hope to see your participation in the 50 Torsos Workshop as well:
Anatomy Lesson Series: Body Part 2 - The Torso (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=405198&page=1&pp=15)
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=405198&page=1&pp=15
If you wouldn't mind telling us something about your art training and background, that would be useful. I would encourage you to practice and study in a realistic style vs. a cartoon style as you will learn infinitely more by trying to imitate reality. I look forward to seeing more of your work. :)
Cheers,
-Rebeccak
Sarxous
good to see these head sketches.
Reminds me I haven't done a head study in a while now...
Maybe I'll do some more after the torso challenge finishes this weekend :)
keep 'em comin'

My backround? Well my name is [Sarxous] and my age is [###]. I have no real art training and I'm mainly self taught, inspired mainly by manga and american comics. The only thing that would come close to art training for me would be the two months I spent in a philadephia art school, but they didn't teach much, only assigned...assignments with different mediums. I started drawing with I was about 6, because my cousin (Ameen) was very good (or so I thought) and I wanted to draw just like him. Thinking back, I wanted to do everything like Ameen did. So I drew what I loved back then, which was Dragonball Z. Later I drew mostly fanart of other animes and then started to draw original anime art.....and here I am....thats pretty much it mates. :D
Edit: Thanks for the welcome... :D

Hi...Sarx...:)
Really like what's happening in that bottom one that you posted..
Would be great to see you do more like that...where you combine your comic style with master copies on the same page...this approach, will give you a chance to express your own ideas, style,
ect. and at the same time you would be learning from copying the masters.
I think that if you did, say ten or fifteen pages like that, ..combining comic with masters,..you would see a big improvement in your comic art, as well as your overal draftsmanship,..plus it would be great to see where your imagination takes you, in that sort of combination..:scream:
JUST A THOUGHT AND SUGGESTION, THAT MIGHT HELP YOU ON THIS JOURNY..:)
Really looking forward to seeing more of your work..

Been a long time since I actually posted on this thing. I've improved a bit from the little bit of study I've been doing (since I'm lazy :P ) Been trying to get into 3d lately but its harder than I thought, since most of the good tutorials assume some knowledge, I guess I'll have to buy some books on the subject but in the mean time...more sketch stuff.

Sketchathon Images. Sometimes I find myself rushing to finish parts of the image because I've focused on one part too long.

Hi...Sarx ...:)
I like those comic/old master combination drawings on the same page that you posted...seeing a lot more of those would be GREAT.
You might want to check out the books of Burne Hogarth...His teachings will help you take both your comic and realistic figures to a higher level..just a passing thought ..:)
Looking forward to seeing more of your work and progress ..

Spirit Dreamer - Thank you. I think I have 2 books by Burne Hogarth but I never gave them a read. I guess I have to now, eh? :D

And this which I'm horribly ashamed of. Any critics on the color or better yet, how to properly paint hair?

Nothing figure or anatomy related as I've been working on a personal project for the last five days. Its a one-shot comic. All of it sucks, so I'm going to put the next five days into some study of anatomy and perspective. That should be fun :) While I'm doing this it'll be a chore to avoid planning other projects I've had ideas about.
Personal Project: Captura Magaro.

Enjoy.
Good thinking.
Anatomy studies will help you for sure.
I would suggest to focus on the head for a while, more specifically the overall shape of the head and the placement of the facial features.
Some of the face profiles you drew are really nice!
Keep it up!

So I spent a few hours on it and I'm feeling kinda unconfident in my abilties. The image just isn't coming along the way I expect it too. Perhaps maybe someone can see some error and correct me on it in this W.I.P before I go on any further. I'm in dire need of advice here guys. Lay it on me please.

Two things I've been working on for a couple of days on and off with the latter being a earlier WIP scan. Its not done so I won't bother posting up another WIP. I've also been watching of of Riven Pheonix's videos. I'm up to video 44 I believe...

Hi Sarxous !!

keep studying . ..

THanks Deepam. One of the things I need to work on alot is my perspective so I'll more studies in that area are pretty much mandatory, lol. In the mean time I'll post this challenge from the DSG on CA. Hour and a half in Photoshop.

More sketches THAN YOU BODY HAS ROOM FOR. Just some week old stuff I've wanted to upload for a while, and some 30 second gesture drawings from Posemaniacs. I also managed to do a 3 hour speed paint today, figured it was time to stop being intimidated by photoshop.
