As the title suggests, this is my selfportrait in the renaissance style.
I just started yesterday, and worked for approximately 4 hours on it. So it's pretty much in the first stage.

Referance taken from a photo (Even though i prefer working from a mirror, this pose was hard and hurt my eyes.) No tracing over the photo, the picture was in my hand.

I don't know what I want to put in the background yet, but most likely something that you can barely see in the dark. I want to keep the portrait in focus.

Do you think if I should make her hair dissolve into black, or leave it as it is?

PS: I'm using Photoshop

Comments appreciated, thanks!

This is coming along great, the drawing itself looks very Renaissance-like; But the colors are what's going to make or break this piece, I'm rooting for you though. Keep it up, looking forward to the results.

I think George is right about what you do color-wise. There is something about it, at this stage, that remindss me of some of the geisha art in Ukiyo-e work.

Make sure to darken the hell out of the background; Artwork during the Renaissance generally had very dark background. A great resourse of Renaissance art can be found at this link (http://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/welcome.html) ;

Be sure to go to 'Artists' and 'Renaissance' for the time period. Have fun, looking forward to updates.

slickgreekgeo: Thanks, I'm happy to hear that you like it so far. Also thanks a lot for the link, I've been doing some google search last night for referance, but hadn't been able to find good ones.
You're right about the colors, drawing it out was the easy part :) I hope I can get this right!

Cris-Palomino: Ukiyo-e? Hmm.. Maybe because of the vivid red on the lips and cheek bone, and the pale white skin? :)
