View Full Version : Polygon Smooth - creases?

I'm modelling a character in low poly and using polygons/smooth to get him all curvy. Is there a way to assign edge weights so I can keep some of the orig. creases? Or should I be approaching this differently?

You can't weight the polySmooth function as such. You can crease subD models, but I can't remember if you can weight those creases in Maya.

If you want sharp creases in you polySmooth-ed model, just add more gemetry around the edge you want to crease before smoothing.

if you make normals on the edges "hard", then there is an option in the smooth operation to keep hard edges.

Thanks Mr Beaker

Much appreciated.

Beaker- I just tried the way you mentioned. It nearly does what I need. But not quite. As well as keeping the crease, it keeps the edge as straight as it orig. was. The part I want to crease is the section where this fat little guy's stomach intersects with his legs. I want it to be able to make the edge curvy, but creased. Is my only other option SubD?

You just gotta add more geometry where you want the crease as you are essentially adding more detail to the model. This will be the same whether you use polys or subdivs as subdivs won't let you specify a hardness either, unless you have a copy of MTOR
