Looking at setting up a render farm with about 20 computers. Just wanted to know what programs are available that work under Windows XP. Possibly some free or popular programs that work well. Tried DrQueue but doesn't seem to be maintained and doesn't work. Also checked out programs listed on: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1847413,00.asp. Tried some of them but was unable to get any results. Thanks.

there are a few rendermanagers, try to take a look at www.royalrender.de, it's cheap, and it seems to work good.

Dr queue is still mantained, but under windows it's a little bit tricky, you have to watch out for a lot of things, eg: tsch shell, gtk, at the moment it's also dead slow under windows, but with a little bit of working probably you can get good result.

you can also check here: http://www.highend3d.com/maya/downloads/tools/render_managers/

some are still mantained some not.

Cheers

we use muster at our studio, it works quite well. i think its a bit pricy but its very stable. the only problem ive had so far is i always get a zdepth file when i render with maya. beyond that.. its quite nice.

and actually.. if anyone knows how to get rid of said depth file id be very grateful to know..!

If you are running a Windows Farm, Deadline (http://software.franticfilms.com/index.aspx?page=deadline) is worth mentioning.

MUSTER from VirtualVertex

its fully customizable, and I was rendering few scenes at the same time, changing priorities and so on, without a glitch. but it requires someone with a bit of a knowledge, networking and so on

IronHalo: I believe it has a special tag for it that you can write down in additional parameters,
but the easier way to do it (if you feel lazy) resave the maya file with z depth unchecked. then render
