View Full Version : Too much CG can kill you!
Leonard 02-02-2003, 10:27 PM "Sitting at a computer for long periods of time could kill you, according to a new study reported in the February 2003 edition of the European Respiratory Journal.
It says there is a risk of developing life-threatening blood clots from sitting for long periods at a computer, similar to a problem that has injured or killed some airline passengers on long flights."

really has nothin to do with computers. i could imagine sitting for 18 hours without getting up to stretch your legs could do that no matter what you where doing.
My soluition is to draw with my laptop in the park. Then walk to another part of the park and draw some more. I think the big thing is for people to get up and move around, sitting for so long just isnt healthy.

Funny thing is, I've been thinking of buying one of those bike pedal exercise things that will sit under the desk... just pedal away while browsing, drawing, gaming etc...so not to be a total computer potato. :bounce:

Yea, I go out for several quick power pedals on the ole mountain bike each day ... ya gotta keep that circulation going eh... and good circulation is very important for many things... ;) ;) ;D

Solution: Always have a jug of filtered water next to you. You end up drinking so much water that you HAVE to leave your desk periodically. It's good for you too!:D

I guess I'd better start saying my goodbyes, then; all I do is sit in front of a screen all day. Weekends are a godsend.

Same here, Anim8rJB. I sit in front of a computer at work for 8+ hours then go home and either sit in front of the computer or the game console. At least at work I move around at least every 2 hours or so. Thank the heavens for smoke breaks! :)

to each his own...but at least your smoke breaks give me a break from you! too much Anim8rJB can kill you! :) j/k
for me it is a "Coke" break...damn free soda at work is fantastic, though I fear the nostalgia of it all has not worn thin fast enough *burp* ...excuse me... :)
I tend to sit in 2 chairs throughout the day... a regular chair with a back, and an ergonomic knee chair thingy...we also have several bean bag chairs here and there to loaf on when we want to collect ourselves [or land front flips on when we want to be silly]...

Or, do as i do, work at 2 or 3 computers at the same time....
Work at nr. 1, start preview render, go to compu 2. make full render, go to compu 3, start modelling further there, do some other previews...oh look...compu has finished, walk over there again...etc..etc...

SOLUTION: Don't use a chair! Practice horse riding stance or your splits. Kneel! Stand and bend! Put the computer on the floor!
Um...
See? I will rid the world of this evil death.:D

I sit for 10 to 12 hours a day, on average, in front of my computer. My computer was, until recently, sitting slightly to my left, and after a few months of using sitting with me neck bent to face towards it, I now have a major problem with my neck. I think the muscles on the one side have actually shortened slightly. I now have to do painful stretching exercises to rectify it.
But that is the only real problem I have had, and I have been spending a vast amount of time in front of computers for 17 years now!

this japanese dude in japan, they found him dead after spending i think 48 hours in front of his computer playing pc games.
i think he was playing either evercrack or starcrack or counter crack, one of these games.
he had lost his job, and i guess he didnt eat or drink and kept on playing.

Go swimming 4-5 hours a week as I do (and i've done it for 10 years), it will solve all your muscle and tendons problems ;)
Leigh you live in front of the sea, try to leave that chair sometimes :D

Once i get into the comp lab at school 7:30 I rarely leave till 6:00, at which time I move over to the Library till 9:00. But I have a three mile walk to school and back so I guess that makes up for it. I'm also into the martial arts.

don't know if one of them's the same guy, but twice in the last few months guys in Korea had died in i cafe's playing games, one playing diablo II, that guy clocked up over 80hrs non-stop as you can smoke and they have noodle action and other food, he passed out in front of the pc, and they found him dead on the shitter shortly after. anywho, i doubt an ergonomic mouse/chair/desk or anything would have helped. it would be a shame if a certain % of your on-screen real estate had to be taken up by a govenment/surgeon general's health warning, but some fools.:shame:

Hmm, well up until my computer disintergrated, I was using my computer for 6 hours a day, and kung fu training about 2 hours a day.
Hooray for kung fu!

If someone sits still voluntarily for 18 hours a day, every day for months, he or she deserves everything that happens. Sounds like a contender for the 'Darwin Awards'...
(And if he or she is too young to know better, then the boot in the ass goes to his/her parents for not raising/looking after them better.)
You have to do something every 24 - 48 hours that raises your pulse near 80% of max for about 15 - 25 minutes - at least.
Grat to know that but
I'm already dead!
See Ya!:scream:

Hehe, good point, sex is an aerobic exercise -
but I'm not sure it's good enough... for 2 reasons: the pulse rate, you'd have to be doing it on the treadmill which could get dangerous... and - most of you guys here on this forum wouldn't last that long (based on statistics I read in Playboy once). :)
