Heh im not sure if the title is appropriate but here it goes...

I recently entered the world of LW and didnt hesitate to look into a few tutorials to get the basics of modeling, well i was well on my way and made my first model...

and i wanted to texture it so on another board they gave me help and explained to me that i should surface it accordingly since its all boxes, i also saw someting about this in the manual...

Well what my question is, where should i begin? I tried doing some tutorials but they didnt really teach me much except whatever we were doign in the tutorial. I tried reading the chapters in the manual about texturing but all it does is really explai what the different tools do which i know is really important but didnt help me out very much.

What i was thinking is can someone point me in the right direction where i can learn to texture or at least get my feet we in it. I know everyone had to begin somewhere and i just wanted to know where you begun.

Here is a image or my desk that i used as a refrance to model, and now i would like to texture it so it looks identical to it which i know wont be easy.

Sorry if this isnt a appropriae thread for this forum but im new here and thought i would ask hoping to get some help.

Thanks,
Mario.

Oh you sure have come to the right place alright!

Before going any further, have you checked out the LightWave tutorials page (http://lightwave3d.com/tutorials) ? Scroll down the page, and you will find a whole bunch of texturing tuts, including a few I wrote for people just like yourself! They fully explain the basics of UVs, projections, as well as the different aspects of texturing!

To texture your model to look like your reference will be simple - once you have read those above-mentioned tuts, start snapping some photos of yourr desk surface, and we can take things from there

Well thanks for pointing me int he right direction, i will do every texture tutorial that there is on that page and hopefully I come out with some basic knowledge about texturing.

About taking pictures of my desk as you can see the camera i used is not ment to take photos and i dont have a digital cam so would it be possible to make these textures in any way or even take unclear photos and clear them up a bit?

Thanks for the help btw,
Mario.

Cool, yeah I'm sure you will be able to find some photos on the internet which you can use as a base :)

Well i have been playing around and have come up with a texture that is pretty close to what my desk looks like...

Now what i want to know is what can i do to make it look a little more realistic or what can i improve on it to make it better?

Thanks,
Mario.

Well the texture looks fine, but i can see the same texture on the bottom left panel and the bottom right panel. but its fine. To make it more realistic i would give it a little bit of specularity, because its finished wood and the wax should reflect some of the light a little. ahhm im not an avid texture artist, but i don't think wood is that hard to do??
