I have a model of Scion xB as a .max and .3ds file that I need to add modification on, so I import the .3ds file to Rhino because I don't know how to use 3DS Max. From the below pictures, you can see the meshes are weird in some places especially the doors. Is there any way to fix this? Because I need to render it and make post cards for public relation purposes and when I tried to render it with VfR it looks kind of weird.

i'm not sure it's probablity but you can use Transform-->Polygon Mesh--> Reduce. Enter a value that bigger than 100 in "or by .... percent" text box. Weird edges would be come nicer if the polygon density gets higher.

This sometimes happens when you apply the uniform normals command..

I decided to use Max for final render, but I am having problem zooming in. For example, sometimes I have to scroll my mouse so much and it will only zoom in a little bit. This is happened to me in Rhino too, so I think there's something I misunderstand on these programs?

Its bad idea to export .max file directly to rhino... because they language on a solids or mesh is entirely different. For example, you could see shrinking or wrinkled door of your xB model that is because it has chamfer surrounded. Rhino doesn't understand this type of tool from max. You can export .obj into max which works better but this makes too much work... it would be trouble if you have slow computer or poor graphic card.

There is solution, but not 100% efficeincy... There is a plugin for rhino calledmesh to solid which would export mesh into solid... click here to download (http://www.fpsols.com/mesh_to_solid_rh.html) Based on my experience, if you see some solid become invisible or strange looking, try to rebuild this solid, if it doesn't work then you would have to "redo" the surface directly with rhino tools.

Hope this helps

Edit... About zooming in when exporting rhino into max.... Enable User viewport rather than perspective or you can use camera this works best.

Hello,

When you scroll to zoom in your object, you change only a parameter of your camera, (lens lenght). Then, your camera is very far away from the objet, and the lens lenght probably at it maximum value.

You need to zoom with the windows-zooming function , then with the scroll.

thank you all for helping, you guys are my only resource when i have questions.
so again another question. I am trying to make cross sections in x and y direction of the model, it will be printed out as template to make a real foam model. The easiest way should be drawing horizontal and vertical lines from the top view and project it to the model. But since it is mesh I can't project it, is there any other way to do it beside drawing each cross section manually which might be inaccurate either.
