View Full Version : Still: Old retro Video-Arcade (Coin ups)
SketchPad 02-02-2003, 10:03 PM Hi guys & gals,
I've been working on this one lately, now it's in its texturing process
and is about to finish ('ll probably put some life in those arcade-screens) :)

Any suggestions on how to improve it? To make it really cool
and interesting?
I'm stuck - any help appreciated.
Cheers & Thanks! :)

Great models! How about turning them on, I mean adding some video game screens to the displays?

Looks like it's on its way to being a cool scene. Here are my suggestions:
Texture lots of cool overlays on the control panels.
Put small chips in the wood of some of the cabinets, where they have acquired some wear and tear over the years.
Cigarette burns on some of the control panels (lots and lots of old coinops have these. When people were allowed to smoke practically everywhere, people would rest their cigs next to the 1UP and 2UP buttons, which would leave a long scorch mark and melted plastic.
Illuminated marquees and screens.
Dirty up the floor some.
"Out of order" sign on one of the games.
Signs on the walls: "No refunds" "Play at your own risk" "Do not kick the machines"
Dim lighting in the room, so most of the light comes from the monitors.
Maybe add a change machine too.
Just a few ideas that came to mind when I looked at this pic :)

It's really useful to get input like yours Toxic Frog, and thanks
a bunch to the people at the Discreet forum and 3dmaxer.dk forums as well. It's closing in on final, but I probably will follow
up some more suggestions and work a little more on lighting.
Cheers,

hey there!
looking good! this one definately has potential,
heres a few suggestions from me though:
Dirty it up! unless this is someones private collection you'll never find an arcade place like this, put some garbage on the ground, have some ripped posters on the walls.
Also i would darken it a whole lot, have most of the light coming from the screens, not too many arcades ive been to have that much ambient light. You could get some really nice mood going.
and i just noticed toxic frogs post :) haha covered most of what i said.
anyway, good stuff so far, keep working!
