Is it posible in EPoly to remo orange lines when object is in submode + Subdivision Surface at same time. And work like in lightwave?

depends if you're using max 5, cause i know for sure there's an option in the modifier rollout 'show cage'

not sure if it's in 4 too tho. but you can't get it to display like LW, that i know for sure

NO! Bummer. It's the best thing about LW modelling compared to any other poly modeller.

if your talking about what i think you are then yes

in max 5 editpoly mode with msmooth on you can edit with the low poly cae while keepig it smooth
and remove lines and verrts

but not quite sure what you mean sinse i dont use LW

How? If you don't show the cage you don't see the vertices exactly. You can try and guess where they are, but in LW the cage is displayed as lines on the subdivided surface itself.

I think this is the new feature in question? On the edit poly level w/ show end result on the "show cage" switch?

Don't know if it's what your looking for though.

No, what we are looking for is like this (http://home.earthlink.net/~dvornik/cgt/tech/LW1.jpg) - left side displays the poly cage you are working on as splines on a subdivided surface. So you actually see the surface you are working on. And it doesn't slow down the viewport the way meshsmooth does.

That would be a lovely feature, and not having the hit you take from meshsmooth too?

Heaven =)

Now, I tried LW for a couple of days and hated it's interface. You have to LOVE keyboard shortcuts to use it. But still, check out these videos (http://www.lightwave3d.com/tutorials/modeling/head/index.html) - you'll understand LW's strengths. I think max has very mature poly tools, and if they add display capabilities and viewport performance of LW polys it would be a killer modeller.

Thanks for the link -- I haven't really had the time to give Lightwave a chance, but a lot of people certainly do get lovely results with it. I'm rather fond of keyboard short cuts (espeacially in modelling), but I'm way over-invested and happy with max >.<

max's modelling tools are so ingrained on me at this point that I flinch everytime I convince myself it'd be clever to get a bit more comfortable with Maya... ;)

Who knew how much soft selections and a clever tighten script could mean to a person till they have to do w/out?
