Modeled in Wings 3D (box modeling)
Rendered in Yafray .003
I'm working on the interior now. Making chairs is hard.

Hey munkily! Looking good, can't wait till you have the interior, then make it into a time machine.

MR. FUSION will come after the real car is finished

You modeled every single bump in the tail lights?
Me
I'm not very experienced with cars, when (year) that model started to sale?
MrMunkily

the taillights are nonexistant - those are holes where they shine through, but the glass parts aren't modeled yet. I think I'm not going to render the rear - I'm having topology problems there.
oh the delorean dmc12 was the only model ever released by delorean motor cars, from 81 to 83

Working on the interior - I've finished tweaking the surfaces on the outside
textures and better surfacing come next.

what did you use to model it? blueprints? modeled from a picture? what references were used? oh and by the way, the model looks really good, I can't wait to see it done!

needs a little bit of modeling,, but looks really great.. these cars are so flat,, I see one around my parts from time to time. what were they thinking in the 80's
hehe

oOoOoooooooOOoOOooo i miss back to the future
just a curiosity: is the front wheel supposed to be flat, not concave like the rear one?
i think the concave looks sooooo cool :P
ur car is looking great so far IMHO
MrMunkily
02-04-2003, 06:38 PM
yes, actually the rear hubcap is the concave one. It's also bigger than the front one.
Too bad I can't work on this for a few days. I'll finish it this weekend or thenabouts.
It needs the edges to be fixed a bit better, And I need to work on a better "leathery" material
I'll open up a door for the final render so I have to do more work on the interior

Waits eagerly. What you've displayed so far is good.
Nooooooooooo!!! I am currently building this car myself. Damned, why everybody starts building this thing when I do? Nobody did in the last 20 years :scream: ;) :p
Looks very good so far :) :applause:
What do you use as reference? I have the 1:18 model from Sunstar and an original prospect with blueprints (unfortunately not very accurate ones).
Can we get a rear view too?

damn it i know i was just about to start modeling the '81 DMC-12 that i own. but its looking good. needs a little work on textures. remember the car was stainless steal or gold plated which means the car could be a little shinny.

need to check on this, but i think the car is not that ultra flat lined..
;) its good...

to answer that question, I did use those prospect blueprints
they are actually of the prototype DSV (Delorean Safety Vehicle) which had an airbag and all sorts of cool stuff for an early 80s car.
I checked every forum before I started modeling and no one had done this yet (well there was a lowpoly but that dosen't count...)
The rear has geometry problems. I'll post when I have them all cleared up.

I'm sure you mean well, but you don't seem to be modeling a Delorean. It looks more like the Dodge K car. First off there is a lot of history behind this car. If you want to disregard that, keep in mind that any car is a complex machine. You can't just model the door and think you're done. And there's no mistaking the flaws. When you model a character you can always change the shape of the nose. BUT with a car, you miss the hood grooves and you've made the wrong car.
So why am I against this model?? Well for the last two months I've been modeling the Delorean DMC-12. And I mean every part right done the the X frame. Every piece opens with the correct pistons and interior is down to the cigarrette lighter(even if i can't spell it). If you want to model a car worth looking at, I suggest you find the parts manual.
Now for this model. Get the style right. You started out with the DSV and ended on the K car wagon. Go to my website to see the differences between models.
www.deloreans-r-us.i8.com
The lighting is okay. Probably the best part. Everything else is way off. Your headlights and fog lights are not consisatant with any model. The car is too tall, the windows are a little off, the front quarter panel is wrong, the pontoon is off, the edges are too stiff, the rims are wrong, and the side mirrors are half DSV and half production model, which once again doesn't exist. If you plan to finish this model out, get the parts manual.
You may be a good modeler, but don't offend people with a bad Delorean. Included(hopefully) is a quick render of my Delorean using Maya. I decided to go for a mid '81 with grey interior and the 5 speed transmission. This is by far the most produced version of the model( bet you didn't realize there were differences). The second most produced is the Black interior 5 speed with no grooves on the hood, but a small emblem which is considered the early '82.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention i'm not finished. I'm 95% done modeling and 50% done texturing. But if you plan to model this car you have some serious competition. When I finish this model it will go up on my wesite.

evildeli, I'm sorry, but that post was unnecessary. And by the way, you spent so much time modeling all the little details...what for? that won't get you a job! sorry to say it but you just have a very complex, detailed, hi-res ugly bunch of crap. What good is a historic 5-speed transmission if you, or anybody won't be able to see it, same goes for the "pistons" that open the doors. etc etc.
By the way... mrMunkily's delorean looks much better so I guess he's not only a better artist, but can also work faster than you
good job dude!
Oh nooo, another one. ;)
And a veery good one. I just love the details. Will keep an eye on this.
Of course, some critique is always usefull
As far as I know there are 3 different deloreans. The first one had a little lid (sp?) for refueling. Later it was removed, and you only had the grooves which where removed later too (but the little emblem added).
And the pistons arenīt the main part for opening the doors, therefore you have the torsion bars.
lacaci, well, your post isnīt very nice too ;). I think itīs far of from being ugly. Only think the corners of the rear windows an the black part under the nose could be a little bit more rounded. But hey, these are wips.

my comments about the wing 3d delorean were not ment to be harse, but rather to let the person know that if he wants to make a Delorean, he needs to try harder. Since I already have a job modeling, rigging and animating, i guess it is important to have the details cause it IS what they look for in a job.

It's not like we're competing or anything. Your point is taken but I'm not aiming for the same level of detail that you are. I'm not in the CG buisness nor do I intend to be. I'm not using the right tools for the job either, and my modeling isn't supposed to be precise.

There's a difference between details and fcuking unnecesary details that no one will ever see...

evildeli - I agree that while your post did contain some useful suggestions, it's tone was a little out of bounds.
It seems to me that it was nothing more than a shameless plug of your own WIP.
To be honest, I think that your own WIP is not really all that great, but since this is not your own thread, I will not post my critique of it.
Kindly climb down off your high horse when giving critiques - I really believe that in posting that comment your intentions were nothing more than an attempt to show off.
