Well here is my first concept, i am trying to show a cityscape with the plasma tube in the middle. I started rading the book and stop it to make this quick concept because ive got the image and tried to paint it, i will keep reading to find another couple ideas until i start my final composition. Reinaldo, you've captured something already with this art, even in it's sketchy concept phase. I've bookmarked your thread, and I can't wait to watch this piece be developed into it's final product. Fantastic composition - you've really captured a sense of scale and eeriness, along with awe and beauty. I love it already.

Hi Reinaldo, very nice and warm colours. The view is spectacular, just would like to mention a detail that could be of importance, the plasma beam should go west to east not up and down in the case of your view. keep it going, nice start!

hi there! Very nice starting image. U really did a nice job with red-yellow light and more green shadow part. But I dont find that building on the left helping the composition or the story. It closes the view of a great horizont and tells us nothing. I would rather see just a big city and the pipe sucking it, more epic. But thats just my opinion :) good luck!

Hey
pretty nice start, colors look quite good and the shadow area in the city looks really interesting. I would try to design something else for the ceiling area.. looks a bit typical.. otherwise good work, let's see you finish this one! Good luck!

@ NinjaA55N: I agreed, even before I post it, but never had the time to finish tnx a lot for the critic
@ Ranath: Yup, I didnt work it indeed, neither the arquitechture... by the time i made that concept I havnt readed the book so I didnt tried much design because I would end changing it for sure,TNX a lot

Here is my second concept. In this comp i tryed to focus on a poster art concept and show not a single part of the asteroid but many, I also made some camera tilts in a landscape composition trying to keep some aspects of my first sketch. Also I tried cold colors instead of warm because it keep the feelings of spacescape and mistery and fit more in an asteroid.
Still thinking about portrait or landscape, really I do like much more landscape compositions but my other brain hemisphere say "promotional = portrait"
Beautiful concepts!!! Very professional.
Personaly I like the first one better :).
Good luck! Hope you will have time to finish it.

The composition on this one is looking good, I like the movement and action in it. The narrow palette range is also working pretty well for it. All I can say is keep going and let's see what you get. :)

@ musi: tnx, well i like the first one except but a bit of things, maybe i will finish it but not this time, i made the second one trying to fit more on EON, also i made the firstone before reading the book hehe, I didnt finish the book yet but now my mind is more clear.
@ Thaldir: Totally agreed, tnx for the coment, that kind of coments give me a bit of encourage
@ tofuangel: Thank you, now i am trying to make a couple more test on the second composition to add more epic feeling to the picture

Well here is the evolution of my second concept, I do not use line arts and not sure if I will use 3D at this time, I simply made the composition based on brush strokes. The only thing I allways use is a diagram in this kind of perspectives.
Since the cave is radial, my first thought was a radial perspective but since I change my composition for a landscape and I would make it whit golden rule, I simply used the golden spiral to suport my composition. It looks pretty wear actually but it was very usefull.
Next I will post the final concept art.

Well here is the 2nd concept. I will work whit this one.
The fifth chamber. A lot of aspects are not worked yet, but I think is enought a this point to start the developement of the final image. Some details were added in random areas just for guides and to remember me what I was doing and what I must do, just how I work.
This will be very exciting because the book have a great description of this chamber, well that's all for now.
BTW, what should I post in the lineart millestone :S!!!

I started to make the ground and the base structures. I will keep adding more detail, a lot of work ahead, hope I will have time to finish it.
By the way, I do not know how the scale looks, no humans because they are to small for the scene...
Critics and coments are wellcome

This is one more concept of the fifth chamber. Very rought for now but is the same concept I made before.
In my last try I didn't felt satisfied, the sanse of scale was to small for what im trying to show.
This time I am triying more dinamic composition, also I am triying a wide warp perspective with canopy clouds like an eyestorm arround the plasma tube.
I will work it a bit more an then decide wich one to develop.

Well it's been a while since I used line art but have a lot of fun making this one. Made whit Corel Painter (Brush tool and Brush Line Tool) and a bit of Adobe Illustrator, and pencil+sketchbook of course.
Was very hard to cover so many aspects of EON in one single picture. Now I will start to work whit the final color pallete.

Now I added some more lights and start to modify the composition a bit. This is near to the final color scheme.
I want to add more cold coloros, tried whit greens but stil to warm in some areas that should not be warm, in fact I am having some troubles whit the colors, maybe some rest will help me.
Happy new year!

The latest post looks great. I really like the color choice and lighting setup. One minor crit though: the image is a bit dark. It may just be this monitor but a bit of brightening could help bring out some of the detail that's getting lossed. Nice work man keep it coming!

Indeed it seems a bit dark and especialy the lower left part of the pic, maybe just a tiny little bit too much.
But in the same time with the light from the end of the tunnel it really gives a lot of depth to your pic.
Don't know if you'll put the beam in there, but that will lighten up also a bit some foreground elements.
I just love it!

Hello everybody, indeed I have many diferent arts, but the thing is every time I paint I make many concepts until I get satisfied whit the results. This time I made it before but I lost the files and had to start over... now I am working on my final image, mostly I start in portrait mode if I will develop a landscape, or start on landscape for portraits, that helps me to make a better focal area.
BTW my final line art (concept on pencil and paper) is not posted yet because I dont have a scanner, I will post it tomorrow after scan it.
Now back to work, rush rush rush...
Thank you all for the feedback!
TheFirstAngel
01-28-2007, 10:03 PM
well then get your well deserved rest and make sure you aproach it with a fresh pairt of eyes.
yet things i think you could uppower it:
since mainpalete is orange, a cyan rim/fill light, complementary coud help the depht.
actually i think the colos are a bit muddy, some vivid forgroundcolors that pop could make it more striking, also boost the contrast in the focal points would help it.
perspective looks here and there off the grid, eventually make a quick grid, helps extremely on the finish, was too lazy to make mine and could speed up y progress since i done it :)
basically, since i know your great feel for light, just trust your feel, go for it and bring it over the finishing line mate, hope to see ya there :) keep on rocking and cheers form someone who spent 17 hours on photoshop too :P lets rock it til the phat lady sais its over til then, boost your engines!

At this point I am to tired and I dond trust my eyes much more, I added some blue to the color scheme to gain more sci-fi feeling, but not sure...
Any opinion would be great

This is my final image, a landscape of the asteroid trying to show colossal architechture and integration with nature and organic enviroments in a peacefull atmosphere, that is the way I imagine the asteroid while reading the book. This one is not a specific chamber, just paint what came off me, is mostly inspired by the 7th chamber but I didnt wanted to develop an specific part of the book, mostly I wanted to show feelings rather than impact that is the reason why I changed the composition and developed this. Hope you enjoy it.
I had lot of troubles developing my eon entry since i had many commisions and homework, and had problems with files of my previus development, and I post wrong final image, I couldnt take the proper time for the development. I take time to made it at the last moment, now I am very tired and sleepy after expend a lot of time nonstop on painter and photoshop.
Thanks to all CG Society members for the C&C and suport, and obiuslly for those who made the challenge possible. Also Tnx to my friends who help me when mi computer got screwed.
Wish you all good luck with the judges, for me, at this point all I can say is I learned a lot during this challenge, more than I expected, and for sure I will enter the next one.

Thank youvery much both sacha and remko. Really, my image turned into this tnx to many factors: sesame street and fatboyslim songs endless playlist, help from my girlfriend and friends and all challengers rushing in the lastest minutes. After trying to develop an image that could transmit all power of the novel, i get locked many times or I got excelent images but not representative of the book, after allheadchase, time preasure and acomulated work and comissions, i started to freak out, at that point all i wanted was peace, rest and gummie bears, so I quit to paint the huge scene I started to paint some peacefull place, dor me my final image really was as the meaning of final image, thats why i chose 7th chamber and a peacefull mod. More or less it represent how does it feel after you see your image uploaded and posted in the last minutes of the contest hehe. Both of you should understand this hehe, I follow your threads today and was very intense. Thank you for the kind words sacha, and what i posted in your thread is just what came out, i dont think anything wrote in my crapy english could be beautifull, i am in the top 10 worst english speakers in the world ;)
Best regards and good luck to both!
