Ryan Anderson has entered "Eon (3D Scene)".

Picked up the book today from a local used bookstore for a buck. I'm just a few chapters in and I find myself enjoying it. Plenty of detail so far to draw from. This is my first CG Challenge I'm entering but I plan on reading through the book first and setting up my new rig before truly digging into this thread.

Anyone else out there reading the book?

I'm about halfway through the book now and all I can say is WOW! The science, the incredible vistas, the politics of war - EON has it all. I'm definitely going to want to grab the other books in this series (ETERNITY (http://www.gregbear.com/books/eternity.cfm) and LEGACY (http://www.gregbear.com/books/legacy.cfm)).

I've been posting/lurking in some of the other threads in the modeling part of the competition and I have to say I'm somewhat dissapointed with the way some are tackling the challenge. It seems like some aren't paying enough attention to the subject matter. There is so much good imagery in the book why not try tapping into that? I mean, afterall, Greg Bear (the author) is one of the appointed judges.

Aw well, I guess some just can't find the book in their language or don't have the time (or will) to read it. But if you are entering this challenge and haven't read the book, I DARE you to read the first hundred pages and not come up with a stunning visual that is way better suited.

As for me, I'm going to keep reading ... Hopefully I'll get this book finished and some images up over this long weekend (Thanksgiving Day for us Canadians!).

Cheers,
OJ
