Okay. I'm reading fast so this will be a disjointed summary. Fill free to just skip this message if you feel like it will mess up the book for you.

So far: Pages 1 - 234

The Stone (giant asteroid) has appeared orbiting Earth. Scientist from several nations have been sent to the Stone to do research. The research has been going on for several years and they have found out that the asteroid is hollowed out and filled with chambers. A new mathematician is invited to join the teams on the Stone and given full clearance to learn everything.

When she gets there they show her all seven chambers. The first is mostly for storage/maintance and some researchers are living there. The second and third chambers are two giant cities. The second chamber city looks like a version of a modern city, built by people who were nostalgic for their own past with several large 'chandelier' like buildings. The third chamber city is more futuristic.

The scientist are keeping a lot of information from various governments and the general population on Earth. The hollowed out chambers were built by and lived in by human beings. The cities inside where evacuated sometime in the future (at least three hundred years). The two cities each have a library (one contains books and the other much more high tech library information terminals. The terminals allow you to walk through the city as it was and can teach you a new language in two hours.)

The libraries tell the history of the Death, a time of absolute war and disaster on the Earth. It kills off a huge amount of the population, brings nuclear winter and forces humanity to build and move into the asteroid. Problem is in the library history, the Death is going to happen in about a month.

The fourth chamber is filled with a natural, air regulating environment, with fish farming and plant life that has overgrown over years of being left alone. The fifth chamber is more like a mining pit for materials in the asteroid. The sixth chamber is filled with machinery, that serves some huge purpose, but has very few moving parts. The seventh chamber is a problem. The seventh chamber which looks to be mostly landscape seems to be infinitely long. They realize that the seventh chamber is made of some type of bending of space-time. They also realize that the people who built the cities, are still around, just living much further down the infinite seventh chamber.

Governments get angry about being kept out of the loop on information learned on the Stone. (World ender history, super tech computers, future human society ... stuff like that.) Russia sets up an invasion of the Stone to take it over using several space transport vehicles filled with soldiers. They bring parachutes, rocket boosters, the works. The researchers have their own military guards and a battle begins.

To distract everyone on Earth from the Stone invasion, Russia sets up small confrontations with the United States all over the planet (this was written in 1985, so a confrontations between Russia and the US escalates immediately into absolute disaster).

Everyone uses every nuclear weapon they can think of, start annihilating cities all over the world. All the space platforms are destroyed. The Earth is destroying itself, there are no longer space platforms to get people off the Asteroid. They can only listen to and see it happening. (They have a good view of the bombs going off all over the planet from space.)

The military invasion forces and research scientists realize there is no way to get back for several years. They ceasefire, bury their dead, and start negotiating how to live together in the Stone.

In all of the fighting one of the mathematicians has been kidnapped by a man from the future city far down the seventh chamber corridor. He and his alien looking companion have jumped in a flying ship with her and fly to his city. Several scientist have hopped in a ship to go and find her.

That's a general summary for the first 200 pages. Anyone who has corrections to make or anything to add, please feel free.

I'm going to do an image from the library in Thisledown. I'm planning to have the city displayed as a projection inside the room. The finished illustration is going to be a mix of 2d and 3d.

More on the concept part. Working on getting it to look like I want. I'm planning to put a large cityscape in the blue area along with several people.

the library scene sounds really cool, i liked all the imagery i got from those parts but could never put it into a cohesive vision. looks good, can't wait to see more

I'm in between the concept art and line art phases. There is going to be a layer of information screens and other objects between the buildings and the library teardrop. The colors will keep changing, but this looks like the overall layout.
