I haven't tried it yet but there's some major changes with material creation and management.

Well... there goes Set Material... uggg... just started pondering whether or not it had any use and voila... it's gone :D

If tweak is one of the tools you use often you should propably wait a few days for 0.98.07a since in this release tweak crashes.

Gidgit, I've never noticed set material, what did it do? It's probably worth querying this with Bjorn, if it went in in the first place I'm sure he has plans for it and either the command has been moved or renamed or it will return in a later release.

Jide, really? I haven't tried it yet, I use Tweak all the time. Damn!

Hey Baz... in the previous release... .06c you could say select some face, right click and down near the bottom of the menu was an option Set Materials... thus working with different color shades etc... I am not really too sure how good it was because I had just tried it but a few times myself....

Ah well, just loaded back on the older version... I likes my tweaks too... :D

Thanks for the heads up Jide

The materials were moved to the new outliner window. Much better now IMHO.

And yes, Björn stated on the development forum that the 07a release will propably come in a few days fixing the bugs people manage to report. So if you find something that smells like a bug, go to the official development forum (http://pub33.ezboard.com/fnendowingsmiraifrm1) and check the sticky 0.98.07 BUG REPORTS thread and report the bug if someone already hasn't.

So you like the new Outliner window eh... could/would you show us the ropes to applying textures in Wings, and explain why/how this is better done in Wings than in a more dedicated app... truly I am interested...

Wow, I can't believe how much fun it is to model with this little gem... :D

It's almost scary... because you dread having to leave it to assemble, texture light etc in some other UI... more fun simply pushing poly's in Wings :D

Actually Bjorn has posted a fix you can do yourself but I didn't understand it :o)
Gidgit, I misunderstood you. You now create new materials in the primitives menu and edit etc in the outliner window. I'm not too sure about that, I think maybe you should create new mats in the outliner window too. Keep everything together makes more sense to me!

ok first your gonna need erlang
you might need some files not sure yet
your gonna need the source and possibly the new esdl

once you got the source go to the plugin source directory and open commands
then locate tweak
open this in wordpad or other depending on OS
do not use note pad windows users as it will garble alot of stuff
next use the search command if your editor has one and look for
obj_to_screen
this is what the full line should look like
obj_to_screen({MVM,PM,VP}, {X,Y,Z}) ->
on the next line where it says true
replace this with _
in the next paragraph of commands you will find another true
do the same to it
now save the file

if your using linux you should know how to compile
if you are using mac you should also know
if you dont, wait for update
for windows users right click the file and choose compile
(this is once erlang is installed)
if it gives you errors look and see what it wasnt able to find
most files just need to be in the same directory or in a folder off this directory

I am currently waiting for erlang to finish d/l
once it has finished I will post a more complete instruction on what files are needed where they are located and where they should be
this will be for windows only but may help others

instead im just going to host the fixed tweak file on my web page
for those using mac and linux or other hopefully someone that has access to these other OS's will do the same

Thanx, wasamonkey, gonna try it.... but never ever compiled anything before, so results may be unpredictable;)

Everything looks fine except mentioned tweak and Yafray exporter... everything I get is black something...

wasa, seeing as all the other plugs are platform independant,
shouldn't the fixed tweak be too?
I thought using the erlang compiler was like compiling stuff in java,
ie, you're creating machine code for the virtual machine,
not the platform you're working on...
Might be wrong tho :)

It gets updated faster than i can download :)

You're not wrong about the speed of updates Sheep Factory. If you compare Wings development speed to other (pay lots of $$$) applications, it puts them to shame. It makes you wonder if we paid more for the marketing and advertising than the R&D.

I know you can make the menus transparent in the latest release but I can't find the option to do it! Can anyone let me know?

In the UI prefs, the menu background colour picker,
there is an alpha slider. (Bottom one)

wasamonkey

anything under .7 tends to make te text on alpha a bit hard to read

Thanks dAfTiE!

another version, by the way. 0.98.07d
This feature sounds pretty cool:

- New command "Colors to Material" in body selection mode. It converts
vertex colors to materials. (Useful before exporting to file formats
that don't support vertex colors, such as 3DS and OBJ.)

Yup,it will be even cooler when we'll be able to assign vertex colours in wings. :)
It's just growing at such an incredible rate...
I still remember what it was like a year ago,
and the improvements are incredible.
Cheers Björn
