Friedrichsmorf 2006-10-10
HAXON Press release.
All good things must come to an end.
We are happy to announce the new Cinema R10 and license system.
We would like to thank the thousands of Cinema users over these past 20 years building up the Cinema standard.
As per 2006-10-10 we rule the world with our standard and would like to offer the future since now all pre R10 .c4d files will only render black and white and all animations will stop working.
This is only a natural step of progress and now you have the chance to make the ultimate upgrade and save -thousands- of dollars and euro.
Since all support for pre R10 is stopped in this natural progress we now offer the
UNLOCK license system.
For only Euro200 per .c4d file you can open it once more in the new R10 Reciever Module (Only 1500 Euro per cpu) and save it The R10 SAVIOR Module (Only 600 per cpu) and then continue your work in the the R10 PRETEN Module (Only 500 per cpu with R9 features /900 euro with R10 features).
Get the R10 GETITON BUNDLE for only euro 20000 and all the above modules are included for a service period of a whole month!
Regards

AR wasn't the focus of this upgrade. In R10 interactive render region was added to AR and Pyrocluster is now part of it instead of an own module.

yes, me too, using C4d and happy with the object manager, Archi viz needs an enhancement- development to the AR. as for not being a focus, well Ok but I for one am very disappointed.

is there somewhere a complete list of changes for r10?
1st impression:
Some things look nice, still I am a bit disapointed.
By looking at the info on the maxon site ( still waiting for dowload), my 1st thoughts are that the GUI looks much better ( thanks Per, i suppose).
Timeline improvement, Scene management : sounds great, are the main improvements to me, also the inclusion (looks like it) of the power slider is nice, new Sniper (thanks Paul I guess): nice.
-CA, sounds great I suppose ( not my main area), curious to give it a try.
-BP / UV as part of core: makes sense.
The rest is kind of disapointing ( again I will reserve judgement after trying it out).
AR 2.7 ? pyro cluster is IMO an outdated module, to include it as part of AR does not improve things... no distributed rendering? bad, no (real) improvements to GI: bad,
- no updates to the modelling toolset: BAD.
- still complicated pricing scheme: bad. Why is there no bundle which includes all modules, why are Hair and Mograph separate? Gets more confusing than it was, and pricey.

From what i understood there are some modelling-features in there. I guess a subset of the polygonal modelling toolset.
i think the new version looks good. Of course a ar3 would've been nice, also an updated pyrocluster and dynamics. But you can't have everything at once :-)

I don't have any info on specific plugins, but in general plugins created for Release 8+ that don't involve animation should continue to work. Plugins keyed to the C4D serial number will of course require new keys. Also, plugins that haven't yet been recompiled for Universal Binary won't work until that's been done by the developer.

brush along a spline, nope still can't do that, cool idea though.
you can run 9.6 and 10 together, their serials hsouldn't conflict to my knowledge, but do note that R10 is not backwards compatible at all, so a file saved in ten can only open in ten.

Bit of a thread ressurection you've got going on here. This thread was just about the redesign of the Maxon website at the beginning of the month to announce C4D R10 (should be pretty clear from the thread content). I'll close it now as it's served it's purpose.
