Hi everyone !
Hope everybody are ok on this friday : soon two days of relaxxxx
Yesterday evening, i started reading the book, and its not an very easy task, because its very typed masculine style, and there is a lots of mathematics and physics details, but there is a lots of environnement details too !! !!
So i read the part when Patricia and the boy are in the second chamber.
I like this chamber because its very architectural, and there is special concept there.
There is two scene i like in this chamber : the first when Patricia discover the large road, with all of this stores. I like another scene when she read the first book in this special librairy.
I like this two scenes so ill procede like this :
- Ill make two sketches and ill post it here.
- Ill continue to read the book and as I met interesting scenes, Ill make a sketches etc . . .
Hope you like this way of working !
So soon the first sketch :)
have a nice day

organic because the focus is on the character of Patricia?
wel, it wouldn't be fun otherwise, would it?
ps. the french really stick together  nice to see such connection and a solid group of friends. I almost feel like a neighbour :argh:
and if you get mad on the skeching part, try working with volumes, light, shadow and perspective.
good luck.
Hi flaeticia!
That's great to see you participating in this new challenge. Of course, I hope you will go as further as possible - even achieveing it (that's my purpose too :) ). Here we go with another spam thread! But that's the part of fun in these challenges.
Don't worry, I have to read the book too - I read it a loooong time ago, I can't even recall if I read it totally. That's a shame, but I read pretty fast, so that won't be a problem.
Bon courage!:bounce:

well both look having quiet much potential, personally i think a huge outdoors scene has more potential for an epic piece since you have a wider range of view and the sky to create a dramatic lightset, but also a the library offers very many great possebileties for great design, and since architectural rnderings are your strenght i have no doubt you will great awesome designs for both shots :) keep on going Laeticia, looking forward to your next update :)

Hey Laeticia ...
As Sacha said ... both concept could be great ... Technically , the first one appears pretty huge and impressive which should give the wow look ... the second one is more interesting in an artistic way ... with design work and unusual style ...
So ... that's up to you ...

All right !
There is the last sketch i think !
Thats my personnal vision of the 6th Chamber.
Probably in the final shot, the camera will have a little different angle but it will be like this way of visualisation.
For the little story, u can see patricia which comming down the stairs to take the little truck to visit the 7th chamber.
There is a little bit of rain.
Hope you like it :)
Hey Laeticia, I think this POV is the more interesting, and you too, 6th chamber...she seems to me the less easiest.
With all this mecanic stuff on the foreground, i wish you lot of courage. Now i'm curious to see what kind of architectural style you'll use. I've you already an idea ?
waiting the modeling
Ahaaa!... ça se précise on dirait :) waiting for your next step ! I think that the 6th chamber is not the easiest one too, good choice ! I'am courious to see how you'll do !

Yes, I like your new concept. It is going to be a difficult one, though. Lots and lots of mechanical objects involved, not to mention the changes in weather. Good luck with this one. :)
Btw, I think you should know that story is not as important in the 3D Scene category. Judging will be based more on the actual modeling. Check the FAQ.

Yes, I like your new concept. It is going to be a difficult one, though. Lots and lots of mechanical objects involved, not to mention the changes in weather. Good luck with this one.
Btw, I think you should know that story is not as important in the 3D Scene category. Judging will be based more on the actual modeling. Check the FAQ.
Thanks jesus
Why not Flae... that can be a strong vision behind her... go girl
Yesssss like zapan said ! Truc de fouxes :D

Ahaaa!... ça se précise on dirait waiting for your next step ! I think that the 6th chamber is not the easiest one too, good choice ! I'am courious to see how you'll do !
Best of luck
Yep ! c'est parti !! gogogo
ca va pas etre simple mais bon !;)
Hey Laeticia, I think this POV is the more interesting, and you too, 6th chamber...she seems to me the less easiest.
With all this mecanic stuff on the foreground, i wish you lot of courage. Now i'm curious to see what kind of architectural style you'll use. I've you already an idea ?
waiting the modeling
Yes its not very easy but i like when its hard :D
Thanks for the support cyril :)
Soon, girls and boys, ill post the first part of the modeling !

Hi everyone !
Here is the first modeling part !
The Patricia's head.

wow, a whole head in such little amount of time, thats fine!;) I like the edge flow, it's like mine i chose for my version of patricia. I will looking forward for new stuff, good luck by the way!
edit: i see a face in the ear hehehe
Excellent start ! :scream:
About the head i think that that you can improve the eyes too. The space between the eyes is too big... generally this pace = one eye's width ( une sorte de troisième oeil caché ;) ).
I think that you can also retouch the jaw and stop it before the ear
Keep it up

yeah i must agree with bouboul, sorry, i forgot the crits in the last post...the forehead, the part of it above the eyes are too forward-pressing, you should push it back a little, so the whole face will look more feminin.

Like the head so far. Just a little crit, the forehead/scalp area seems a bit lumpy. I don't know if this look was aimed for or just needs retouching, but thats all. Looks good so far, needs some hair though :p.
if you want useful crits please post orthos :) (front and side views, with simple lighting)
are you using references?

hey m@ ! very happy to see an post from you im very honnored. About the question, yes i use some references. I think ill tweak some elements and after ill post orthos views :)
haha thanks :D now wait till I make some crits.... :p
good that you posted front side and perspective. Your edge flow is quite cool, so I'd suggest, for a good workflow, that you stay at approximately this level of detail for now, tweak until you are really satisfied with your modeling (proportions etc) , and then you can carry on and model details and such. It's a common mistake to want to "mettre la charrue avant les boeufs" and make little details, start texturing shading etc without having a solid foundation.
As for the crits, I think your model doesn't need very much more to be cool, but this "little thing" is crucial and not easy to get. For face modeling , you have to be subtle and very accurate, or it will not look right. Ca pardonne pas.You can use a mirror (easiest way to get a reference, and you can turn your face in any angle..) and measure proportions.
I think most of the problems in your model so far lie in the eye and mouth areas. Also, the forehead looks quite wide and big.. the top of the skull feels very boxy.
The basic proportions of the face aren't right (eyes too far apart, not aligned with the nose wings, etc : check this little diagram http://www.carvingpatterns.com/woodarticles/images/face3.gif for the basic face proportions)
Also, your eye shape is wrong, and, especially if you want to make a beautiful woman, you need to have a nice eye shape. Easy to find refs for that : http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=woman+eye
You need to stick exactly to a good shape, or it will look wrong and your model will look strange. Don't hesitate to put your refs in your viewport and model directly on top of them to get an exact shape.
Also her mouth shape is wrong and not very sexy, and quite sharp. It's easy to find refs on that too on the net . Especially the lower lip sides are a bit "protuberant" and with a very sharp edge. Try to draw a nice mouth outline for her, it will make the face much better.
Also, be it for eye or mouth, don't forget those are 3D-dimensional features. The eyelids are sitting on an eyeball, and the mouth is on the teeth. They are not just flat features but rounded. It's very important to have this in mind.
Well that's already some long crits, hope it's not too obscure. If you want some great inspiration for human modeling, I suggest you take a peek at Peter's Syomka's modeling thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=14912&page=1&pp=15), it's old but golden. For instance there are pictures like this : http://forums.cgsociety.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=17485
Hope this will help, looking forward for the next pics!

So here are some crits. A few directions that might help you... so far you've been shaping it in the good way, I don't think you need much took make it nice.
A general consideration first.
Sharpness : a lot of parts of your model come as sharp and hard edged. Organic modeling is all about flowing muscles, skin, that give a lively look... Especially when modeling women, you need to think about softness and nice curves, or it will look unnatural.
Technically, this kind of problem comes from bad edgeloops, or vertices too close to each other and uncontrolled.
A good way to check if your surfaces are smooth and things are not too sharp in places, is to put a shader with a lot of glossiness and specularity and turn around your model a lot when modeling, and tweak vertices until all your surfaces are smooth.
So the crits now are related to the points:
http://mv.cgcommunity.com/echange/flaecrit.jpg
1. Shape of the eye. It's really better since the last pic :) Do you model over an eyeball? if you don't ,you should model an eyeball first , put the eyes and then model your eyelids on it, it's really handy. My main crit now would be that the eyelids are too thin, almost like paper, we don't feel the skin it that, makes it unnatural.
Also, there's missing a visible tearduct (the little red part that should be were my first arrow is pointing), unless she is asian, but even so, your skin goes the wrong way (your lower eyelid skin goes over the upper eyelid skin, it should be the other way, as you can see here if you lok her eye closely (http://k43.pbase.com/o4/94/17294/1/52929135.Asiangirlweb.jpg))
2. the wing of the nose (the 2 parts around the nostrils) are not clearly defined, that looks very strange. (see 8)
3.The mouth. Still looks very simple. You should definitely work more on the overall shape of the lips, and keep in mind that the mouth is a very 3 dimensional volume. Your mouth edges are also very sharp and unnatural. Here are some shots of a mouth model than can give you some ideas : (it's not perfect but I hope it helps)
http://mv.cgcommunity.com/echange/flaecritmouth.jpg
4. The jawline : I feel like it is very very sharp and a bit jagged, try to round it a bit and give a nicer curve
5. the shape of the nose looks quite simple, there may be some ideas on the above pic. Noses can be very different, have different shapes and a lot of prsonality of a character is in the nose... So I suggest you do some research or find a reference of a nose you'd like to be on your character.
6. feels like the eyes are too much inside the orbits
7. Your ear shape is a good start , but looks very sharp and a lot of curves are more like polygons than real curves. Accurately use refs on this. Also, it looks a bit too big.
8. wing of the nose, on the side view, we really see that you didn't give much thought to that yet :)
9. your jaw line is wrong, it shouldn't go beyond the ear (you don't have your ear ON your cheek, but just after it )
----
hope that helps you (and others that visit the thread) ! looking forward for more updates, but don't stay too much on the character either , there's a lot of work to do on your piece seemingly; keep it up!

Great progress with your body Flae'...
just need to tweak some details a little, but the base is so good...
- hanches un peu basses,
- torse un peu trop long,
- fesses trop pointues et top hautes,
- les jambes trop courtes...
and just my thoughts... but you certainly don't planed to show her in your scenery totally naked not ? then, maybe it's not usefull to realize her like that... that will be make much more work for you after to give her some clothes...
...in other hand, that give you new skills about anat modeling, and of course, it's always good to take.
I keep here with open mouth while waiting the next step of your body modeling
Nothing to add to Lemog's advices... just find some photographic refs that will help. However, that's an amazing improvement, can't believe it's your first body modeling, because the mesh seems to be clear.
See you later!

m@ didnt have time today, so he asked me to do a paintover and forward his love wishes :)
http://www.andersehrenborg.com/TEMP/11703_1161592893_large2.jpg
basically
*try to nail down the proportions before going in to details such as collarbones, nipples, kneecaps etc.. dont hesitate to use orthographic reference images (3d.sk have alot)
*keep the curves smooth.
*avoid opposite arcs(as explained in the topright corner of the paintover)
*say hello to m@ from me!
I dont believe this, you're suppose to deliver a model and it's urgent and...
ok ok it's FLaticia, I understand... but she's M@ love, and I'm yours....
Jonesisme

Don't let them change your design too much. When the book describes Patricia it clearly states she has an impractical body. I think it looks good.
fellah
10-23-2006, 10:40 PM
Jonesisme,
your reply sound stupid, and and infact it made me laugh
having an "impractical" body sure does not mean being anatomically incorrect.
maybe she is a bit chubby. maybe her legs are long and uncontrollable.. maybe she is just unathletic etc..
no offense flaeticia, your body is good for a first body. but that fact aside it needs some work, just as everyones first body have needed tweaking. not saying it needs to be exactly as the paintover but there are some pointers there that should not be neglected to make a believable character..
i will stick to love and my kompis
