Thx you guys all , Have you already seen a little korean french guy running like a crazy around his desk ? :bounce:

This is a multiple challenge for me ... First of all , I'm know squat about Sci FI , I confess that I didn't even watch all the Star Wars (stop laughing in the back) ... The new challenge system requires an animation , gonna be tough ... and to finish I don't know the book at all ...
I stormed in the book store but they didn't have it .... and I will have to wait a couple of days to start studying the thing ... This week end I should have a lot of studies to do ...
I just hope that the copy I will get will have the original names (unlike LOTR) to be able to understand what you guys are talking about ...

Anyway the main thing is , that so exciting to be here again and share this new event with you all ... Have tons of fun and best of luck to everyone !

cheers ,

I know the feeling. I had to start scouring the Net to see what I could find for info on the book and Author in general. On one hand I do want to know more, but on the other hand I don't want to know too much at first, so that I can really create some wild ideas.

Good Luck!

@ Crin : hey , thx a lot friend , will try to do my best ...

@ Gunilla : and now I have to translate it in swedish ? ... I think you are in trouble miss , since I only know the birds noises in swedish .... and I doubt there's a lot of birdies in the outerspace ... :D

@ Elendil_le_Grand : alrighty then ... let's have some fun mate now ...

@ collings : arf too bad , well not that bad since your models are so great ... keep up the great work and maybe we will see here the next time ... :)

@ scootermaya : wheeee .... could I borrow your machine for a while ? :D

Alright after many readings of the inspiration part and some net surfing about the book ... I think I may go for the fifth or sixth chamber ... the fifth could be really interesting in an artistic way , because all the atmospere and mood ...
In the other hand the sixth chamber really attracts me with all the mechanics and machines ... could be great for me to explore this new side of the 3d ... it would be different than always make characters , trees and grass ....

Of course the real book and the entire description should give me clues for the choice ...
So that's still thinking time for me right now ....

cheers ,

Morning Stéph!

So you think of a change and perhaps make this mechanical stuff? :)
And I just thought to have a change myself and start with a character, especially the "Frant" is nice...nobody has ever seen one, so strange modeling is then just "creativity"...
But like you I'm still in the phase of searching for a concept...

Happy reading and thinking for you!

Yeeeaaah, Steph is here too! Of course you chose 3D scene challenge, and that's a good thing - there's always a sort of guarantee to see a good work. And you're going to get another community price, non? - that's a minimum.

Oddity> of course, the popularity of a thread doesn't determine the quality of a work. Stephane is the champion of spam, that's all.:D And that's not "she", that's "he" (at least I guess).

Keep it up Steph - thinking of you, reading and reading before starting this challenge...

Hey guys !

Alright I've finally chosen to go with the 6th chamber ...

There you can see the very entrance which opening on a huge stairs high enough to contemplate a big part of the chamber ... I would like to include a lot of things like the water falls , some kind of huge mechanical units floatings ... I will try to keep some kind of old machine room with a lot of pipes and round containers ...
That's really ambitious to me since I've never done that kind of stuff , but this is so exciting ... :)

I also would like to include Patricia , maybe walking down the stairs , staring at the chamber ...

I'm working on a more overall view right now and I hope I will be able to post it soon ...

Anyway , let me know what you guys think of ...

cheers ,

Mon Ami Steph ;)
Concept up already! It looks good so far - it will be really nice to see you do a scene like this, with all the pipes it's rather far from what you usually do. I think maybe you could add some strange details - to separate it from machinerooms of today. Perhaps some vents in interesting patterns, bolts with starshaped heads ... you get the picture. This will be fun to follow!

French version? Sure, as soon as I've finished the chinese version :scream:

Morning friends ,

@ Gunilla : hey GPG :D , thx a lot , yeah I know what you mean ... I would like to find the right balance with the known stuff , to situate the view and also some new designs to keep the sci-fo fantasy ... errr , who said it was a challenge ....

@ gpepper : thx Gillou , it's gonna be tough , but I will try to do my best ...

@ Intervain : Thx a lot Magdalena ... arf too bad you can't join , it could have been really cool ... thx again anyway for following this :)

@ makaron : ahahah , bunch of nyark then ...

@ daWinky : morning Sabie , and thx , I think this should be fun ... except I'm already nervous about the polycount ... The book is going well , I think I'm in chapter 9 or 10 .... And I discovered all the chambers ... but to me the 6th represents the biggest challenge for me , so there we go ... :)

@ Lemog : ahahaha , that's right I do have to include the lady .... but do you think I could put some sexy outfits on her too ? ... :D ... thx Laurent , I'm gonna keep sketching for a couple of days , to really know where I'm going for this ...

As long as the promised funky boots are included, I'm all for this concept. That aside, the 6th chamber seems to be a very popular place.

Hi Scar-go, I see you're not wasting your time... did you already finish the book?
Interesting concept - a human presence in addition is a good thing too.

M that's right I do have to include the lady .... but do you think I could put some sexy outfits on her too ? ... :D

Maybe you should re-use your lady elfe from TJB challenge? That will do I think ;)...

Funky boots? I vote for!:bounce:

So now about ure sketch : i like it ! i think sarah help u so much with her personal coaching :p
The idea is very good, but the point of vue, gives me the idea that the chamber is very little, very obstructed.
Wait about another great hand sketch :)

Agree. The chamber seems small and seems to end too quickly. Other then that great sketch Steph :D

@ flaeticia : thx , well I would like to make the entrance and the overall way hall very obstructed to keep the feeling of the "there's a lot of machines" kind of look ...

@ alvin-cgi : thx mate

@ Gunilla : Mon derriere rouler , .... ok you got it .... funky boots , jewelry ... but I'm only doing this for you guys .... :D

@ SONIC-X : hey Corrie , thx a lot mate ... yes , sexy lady ... it could be a hot weather in that Rock too , right ? :D

@ madshooter : thx friend

@ JamesMK : thx a lot James , yeah apparently , a lot of people is going for that chamber .... so I guess my concept will be the Funky boots ....

@ shakes : thx friend

@ agou : heya the Sophinette , ahaha , oh dear that book is endless ... I fell asleep several times on that baby .... scchhht ... wait , you want me to reuse the elves ? ... mmh is it allowed ? and not at all off topic here ....

@ beelow : thx a lot friend

@ soapy : thx mate , yeah I think I'm gonna start from that ...

@ TheSoracle : thx a lot mate !

@ Climax : heya Omar , thx for droppin by ... yeah Patricia would be a nice addition in that mechanical ambiance .... I just hope I won't screw this up .... lot of things to do then ...

@ thierry2005 : heya Thierry , thx a lot friend , yeah the amount of work is kind of scaring for me .... erk , what the hell , that's all about fun right ?

Alright eventhough I didn't think about all the design of the chamber , I think I'm gonna start to work with polys from now on 'cause I'm a little afraid that I won't have that much time to work on that during the following weeks , so I have to move on pretty quickly ....

have all a nice day ,

cheers ,

Morning friends !!

@ Nothingness : thx mate , I got to say that Gothic is not really the type I'm looking for ... I'm actually trying to find something between old machinery/a bit of sci fi anyway .... well I hope it would be more clear with polys :)

@ Gunilla : heels for boots ? ahahahah , I got to say you are killing me these days :scream: .... Yes I kind of mirrored some parts of the units, in the full version it should have 3 ... And yes polys are on the way now ...

@ TheSoracle : thx mate .... actually thoses units won't appear very close to keep the High scale kinda feel ... but I will have to deal with the details and textures when the scene will be set up ...

@ gardogg : hey Gary , great to see you here , and thx for your kind words !

@ DimitrisLiatsos : Plop !! thx friend , yeah , to include several of these is planned !

@ SONIC-X : thx a lot Corrie ...

@ daWinky : heya Sabie .... yeah , for the first time , it's the environnement and background before the figure .... but Patricia will show up anyway .... but not just yet ...
Have a nice day too dear !

@ madshooter : Thx a lot Roshan ...

Alrighty ... I started with polys with the entrance/stairs of the chamber .... as soon as I will have something significant to show I will post it ... thx for your support ... and happy modeling time , friends !

yeah,

ploblem is that old machinery in the rock is modern machinery to the peaple from earth visiting it. Meaning you should make it look modern and old by a comparisation or some sort. Or unless you just make it look very old as well.

Nice, nice, but.. I don't think i saw any composition research? it's not really a good workflow starting directly working on some random details - and if you don't feel like drawing your full scene by hand, just doing your compo researches with a camera and a few very simple 3D models is great. So you can know exactly what elements you need to model and/or concentrate on... (imagine that somehow you find that this particular element looks great in your final pic with a lot of atmosphere, smoke , and that only the silhouette will be seen.. would be a shame to have worked so long on the detailed concept and model for needing only a silhouette in the end) .

@ taavi : thx a lot man !

@ Nothingness : well I will try to keep some references from old machines room but I would also like to include some weird machines to have a bit "unseen" look .... err , at least I will try ... :)

@ mv : heya m@ , thx for droppin' by here ... I know what you mean , and I must say that I tried several times to draw the overall picture I have in mind , but without being successful at all :banghead: ... probably because I'm not totally sure about it and /or my drawing skills don't permit me to do so ....:curious:
So I guess the better way to setup the scene for me will be the low poly modeling which I'm starting to work on .... I will try to post it soon ... Thx for your help man ... :)

EDIT : just one thing , would have been awesome to see you entering btw

cheers ,

yeah don't try to draw if it's not your strength - sometimes sketching in 3D is way faster. And yeah, even with a few lowpolies you can have a great idea of what your scene will look like... you can even put a few lights and all and play with moods and camera angles in realtime :) very handy.

and hehe, I didn't say I won't enter :p

Yes you still have time. Erm!! Why do you have a sky dome? I'm asking because i like to learn but i don't see why you have one. (I'm just asking!)

So far everytinh looks good. You need people in there for scale but with the staircase you are going to need a heck of alot in the background to make it look really heavy ( big)

I like plain models so for now it's looking great. Lighting is good for showing what you're doing but make it more dramatic please!:)
Good luck. Cool name by the way!

Heeeyaaa Stéphounette ! glad to see you around after my (little) absence... I hope your job lets you some time to do personal things... that would be a pity.
well, nice job as usual, that's something that never changes... I dunno if you will have more time during holidays, Christmas is always very busy with friends and family! :bounce:
