Let's start this up! Here's what I have so far, I was really inspired by the re-entry scene, with the flying sleds and what not. But I wanted to calm it a bit down, I have way too much going on right now to do a full blown action scene! So Im going to do something more soothing.

I wanted to get Mirsky, landed, but sitting on one of the Flying sleds, next to his landing zone..with all the satelite guns set up, sandbags and others flying from the sky.

So heres my sketch, might be a bit confuinsg to some, but heres what ill do. im going to do a color pass on it to see what feels right! :) Enjoy!

So now im starting to paint him, ill be gone for the weekend cuz I have something to attend, but next week ill try to put some more work into him! I had a goodfriend send me some story information because he read the book, so now I feel more comfortable with the setting and character. I think i need to add his jetpack thingy though...we'll see! Hmm... really nice lineart. I'm obsessed with human anatomy and proportion... I think his feet are too big, and his shoulders compressed. The right foot has an innatural position, and probably the right arm is a little too short. But the character is good, these things are details that are hidden to an entire view of the picture. I suggest to correct only the position and the proportion of the feet.

I really like the concept you have there. I, too, was thinking about doing this scene in the book, but thought it would be too big of a project for a 3D Scene entry. Yours is coming along real nice. :thumbsup:

I really like your concept a lot. The Mirsky character is really outstanding.

I am also working on this same scene atm. the description in the book is hard to depict. From reading the re-entry chapters, I got the feeleing that the sleds were something small since that other soldier eld it up in tetters when asking Mirsky if he would survive reentry with out it.

Loking good, thou it was invasionon Asteroind not a picknick! Make him more ready for action and do some feeling of warzone around him. Also if you do russian equipment it had to be green/brown with red addons - it just had to :D
In another look - he loks more american than russian - dunno why... Maybe try to make his fase look more slavic - more full and chubby, shorter less "badboy" hair :D

notpill - hha i couldnt agree more, totally used Matthew Fox reference pics, but now ive added more of a Babel -movie type Brad Pitt image to him, to show his age, and overall changedh is face a bit. But Fox has a great face...minus his Party of Five days.

The face very much reminds me of a younger paul newman shot I saw awhile back.
I dont know if he is also used for reference, but after reading someone elses comments
about james dean, I wasnt 100% and have to agree more paul newman. Very nice look
