View Full Version : Modelling : Spline Cage in Maya?
darkdeathdreame 02-02-2003, 01:13 AM Hi guys!
I've seen my friends use spline cage modelling in 3Ds max but I can't seem to find a similar way in Maya.
Is it possible to do it? Care to post a tutorial link?
Thanks :)

I've never used Max, but I have used Lighwave's spline cage modeling.
In LW you create a bunch of overlapping polygonal splines in the shape of the object you want.
You then weld all the coincident verts. Then you select 3 or 4 (preferably four) edges that enclose an area and make a polygon patch out of that area.
In Maya you could do the same thing with the Square Surface tool. With it you can create a surface between 4 NURBS curves.
The added advantage in Maya is that you can use the edges of existing surfaces as the starting point for new ones. (If you stay in NURBS mode.)
Take a trip to your local bookstore and have a look at the dino (from the flintstones) tutorial in this book.
