View Full Version : Speeding up C4D when you have Bones?

Lord,

Turn on SoftIK and Refresh and my character update with bones runs slow as...

I've learned to hide all bones that I don't have control over, and just the nulls that control things, but it sure still seems slow. Especially compared to the same model in Maya or Animation:Master (I have it in all three programs)

Any more tips to speed things up?

This is the downside of SoftIK, it's increadibly slow. The easiest thing to do to speed things up if you're using a HN character is turn off generators. That or change the editor setting of your HN's to 1 or 0.

thats one thing I like about R8 HN is that you can set iot to zero now and still have it render fine in editor, before the lowest oyu could set it to was one.

If you have Dual planes make sure they are on, another option is to hide either the bones or the mesh, either one will make it faster, whichever you feel gives oyu the best feedback.

Other things that can help, use low LOD, quickshading rather than goraud, disable textures, use backface culling, and alos use display tae, you can set a view to wirframe, and have only your character shaded, there are al sorts of ways to speed up the editor feedback, and while most only make a small difference, they all add up together.
