View Full Version : Diamond Ring - 3D Studio Max + Vray

I am trying to recreate a diamond seen in the forums of Cesar Montero (hats off to him)http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=308679. They were using Lightwave to create these images. I'm trying to do the same in 3D Studio Max and v-ray but I haven't gotten close yet. The diamonds look very real and I think this would be a good project to try and reproduce in 3D Studio Max + Vray.

Anyone have any tips as to how I can achieve diamonds with a whitish volume? I find that my renderings look more illustrative or abstract than real. Here are some images I've been working on.

Any help is welcome.

Rings are sometimes held upright by a small piece of wax.

Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can improve the look of the diamonds?

Why are you trying to recreate materials from other 3d? And why are you think that your work is less realistic than Cesar's? Show us a photo.
