you didnīt know and like the plugs - Saw, MakeThicker, Mergequadrangles and PolySeamas - as much as I. They are now available for R8:

thanks for the heads p, gonna test it, but what exctly does polygon seamer do, from the icon it looks like it does what the bridgetool does.

Thanks--I'll check them out!

I've heard of "make thicker"--nice to have finally found it.

PolygonSeamer merges a row of selected polys with the neighboring polyrow- either to the left (apply button) or to the right (upside-down button). So instead of two rows of polys youīll end up with one. Comes in handy sometimes.

Yeah, some of the plugs seam (pun intended) to duplicate some of the functions of Stitch & Sew. Makethicker is a must-have. Too bad he didn't integrate it into the AM and make it nonmodal. But what do you want for nothing? :)

What about Mergequadrangles? What does it do?

@ Adam: I agree on Make thicker! Saw is really great when you want some detailed areas in your mesh. I use it a lot and really like how you can control the offset - Iīd very much like to see Maxon integrate that with the edge tools. Maybe worth a suggestion for a point something release! (Btw. isnīt it great to be able to work with edges in R 8? - I love it!)

@ ThirdEye: It merges 2 quads into one. So be careful with the use of that one, if you donīt want to produce a lot of holes in your mesh. Or tris for that matter.

pit:
1) select an edgering and make an edgecut
2) select an edgeloop and use extrude pressing ctrl

it's quite the same thing ;)

The difference between Saw and R8's Edge Loop is that Saw gives the option of placing the new loop in relation to the existing lines. Like, in R8 if you have:

l l

and you edge cut you will get:

l l l.

With Saw, you can get:

ll l, or

l ll, or

l l l, etc.

More control is more better. Really quite handy for adding facial creases and such.

Thanks, ThirdEye - I knew that ;)
Thanks Adam, for explaining the difference :)

yes saww seems pretty nice, I personally am fine with edgecut for perfect middle cuts or multiple perfectly alligned cuts, and knife when I need to get near an edge, but its nice to have available, I think Smir's new cutting plugin will be better if he ever gets toi work on it again, he's usy with he cool new tree plugin.

As for poly seamer, you can do that with the brige tool, as well as stitch and sew.

By the way, I'm a building a list of cool little modeling tricks, that I will then record me performing in C4D as a little modeling tips video. anyone who has a cool trick or knows of a modeling plugin, PM or IM or email me so I can add it to the list, the more the merrier. Plan to make it in about a month but that also depends on some plugins I have seen in development that I'd like to include but have to wait until available. Along with the video will be a list of recommended modeling plugins and their links, I will use a few of them in the video.

Some plugins that are already planned to be included:

Swap Diagonals
Stitch and Sew
Edge Bevel
CTS
Vnormmove
DProtate
EAS
Make Thicker
Weld Tools

Feel free to add others, Don't mention EEpro, I have decided that EEpro has great documentation, and that while still a handy plugin in R8, I rarely use it for poly/boxmodeling anymore, and would like to use as many free plugins as possible, on reason that I am including stitch and sew as well as weldtools is partly because stitch and sew has a small price tag if you wish to use it with more than tend points I believe. I have included Vnormmove and DProtate even though they are part of set of plugins only available for purchase, simply because they are so benificial when modeling I recomend everyone chekc them out.

Any comments or suggestions let me know

@ Kaiskai: SpinPoly is great (and cheap for that matter)! :)

you should include spinpoly rather than swap diagonals... it does so much more (and doesn't triangulate the mesh unnecessarily).

Iron is definitely my fav modeling plugin guys, include it Kai ;)

Why? :surprised Good modeling doesnt need Iron. ;) :)

But I do need iron when i model something like hi poly heads or hi poly hands like this. A couple iron shots and i can adjust the knuckle wrinkles for example... Or I can smooth the palm... Or... ;) (i've heard Maya Artisan makes something similar)

I just started using Iron a few months ago. Its really saved me!

Have you ever felt you were happy with your model at a certain phase of modelling--then smugly did a Hypernurbs SubD? Then 3 days later you realize your client wants a major tweak--so you begin the uphill battle of pushing and pulling points and polys--get it to where you want--but the surface is looking "wonky" (and of course you never saved the original pre-subd model). I guess this is the definition of bad modelling :) but its nice to have an out when you take a wrong turn.

Another helpful bunch are MESS, Polygon Align and Extrude Along Spline.

Whats polygon align, I alreasy listed EAS. mess, thats more of Samir's plugins correct, I'll have to look into them, I will add some iron in there, and will have to see about spin poly, don't have a credit card so just looking at a pay method.

Video(s) will be free most likely, partially depends on hosting, but i don't think that will be a problem.

Sorry--its Polygon AXIS--not align. trying to figure out where I got it! I know it was a freebie.

Spin poly can be found here:

I just discovered this site bookmarked in my favorites. Has a bunch of plugins that I havent heard metioned by anyone else. Not advocating them by any means--just thought I'd post the link.
