I just discovered this animated short while browsing the AWN site. It was made by three students from Supinfocom. The style is that of stop-motion animation but the film was made with Maya, After Effects and Photoshop.

The visual design is superb - so appealing and well designed, particularly the human characters. How is it that three students can make something so fresh and lively looking, yet major animation studios with their millions can't match this type of visual inventiveness?

But, anyway, you can watch the short from AWN's site (screenshot also on the site)

Or download a 50mb mov file from beam.tv

I saw this a while back. Lovely isn't it.

The problem?
Mass market appeal.

plus it would take millions of dollars to get that much.

Great little film. Had fun watching it.

Wow, that was beautiful!

Re-creating stop-motion in Cg was the subject of my MA dissertation and is the visual style of my work-in-progess short "A Small Room" (my avatar shows two characters from it). Tis really short has really achieved that stop-motion look and its down to their animation style and their models.

Great stuff!

Yeah, that was pretty cool, but a bit long and didnt hold my attention. I liked The Big Win a lot better (on the same page linked)
