My model is pretty much done, now I would like to texture this thing as realistically as possible.

I'm using max 5.1, btw.
Now, I'm not really sure how to texture every part. What I would really like to do (though I don't know if I can) would be able to render each objects map out into its own image, then paint on it where I want dirt and stuff, and then put it back on. Almost like taking a baked texture image and just editing it in a photo editor, and then re applying it. Can something like this be done? Or is there an easier method to custom texture every object? I'm willing to spend all the time I have to in order to make this look good. I'm fairly enexperianced with how UVW unwrapping works too.... so I could really use your guy's help on this one! Thanks

This looks like a perfect case for procedural texturing (marble, stone, etc...)

IMHO, if you can do this, you wouldn't need to texture map it. Probably be
faster to do, and would definitely look better.

I doubt that. I think you should definatly start with applying a basic procedual and see how you go. You may be able to build it up enough to get a nice uniform texture. But if you are really wanting to take this as far as you can you should paint it by hand. By that I also suggest photos etc and painting up the rest in photoshop or whatever suits.

Can you show a wire or something showing all the different objects.? Then I could suggest some ways of UVW mapping everything. Also go and find the Texporter plugin. You'll need that for exporting the UVWs.

I doubt that.

Care to explain why?

IMHO, don't waste your time trying to texture map something that will work
well with procedural texturing. I don't know what Chico is thinking, but
this is an excellent model for it.

Im sorry for the rude post back there. I would like to blame that on Monday morning and no coffee yet :wip:

Ill explain it a little later but I'm trying to suggest that doing it by hand will add alot more to it. In conjuction with proceduals.

No offense taken either. I'm not trying to start a procedural vs. texmap debate. :)

Both is always better.
