View Full Version : What's your Intuos3 setup?
Akaikami 10-02-2006, 02:09 AM So I recently picked up an Intuos3 6x11" to go with my Dell 2005FPW and I was wondering what kind of setups you guys use in photoshop for the shortcut buttons on the left and the right side of the tablet (aswell as the sliders).
Just looking for a basic setup I can then modify to my liking.
I was thinking of something like one slider brush size and one slider transparency or saturation change (if that's possible). Also, quick Photoshop question...I saw a video of a guy sketching in a smaller thumbnail image and having a larger one open at the same time with the same image/painting and actively changing. How do I do that?
Please post your setup for your Intuos3's here :)

i just want to be in.
in my intous, left slider is for zoom(default).and right slider for brush size(i hope if it can be used for opacity)
the other keys are mostly default but sometimes i change them for just that piece of work and then make it to default again.
and the middle button on the pen is used as TAB to work easier!

Hi there! I'm still working out my own setup but this is what I've got. Left hand strip is for brush size, right hand strip is disabled because my hand brushed it too much. Otherwise I'd set it up for zooming. Buttons on the left: bottom is space (hand) for dragging the picture around, left is alt (eye dropper), middle is b (brush), and top is f4 (brush options). Right hand buttons are the defaults except the bottom one is z (zoom). I'm still not sure of what to setup over there yet so that one is pretty subject to change, if I ever get around to it. I probably won't. I'm pretty satisfied with what I have on the left right now.
Oh I also have the buttons on the pen setup as bottom button is x (color toggle) and top button is f7 (layers palette toggle).
I hope this helps.

While your thumbnail sketch is active, click New Window for "title of thumbnail sketch" (under WINDOW > Arrange > ...).
It will pop up the identical window of thumbnail, and you may adjust level of zoom for each canvas as you need.

Thanks, didn't know that. Appreciated.

I'm left handed so I disable all of the left side buttons and touchstrip. On the right side, the touchstrip is my zoom. Two buttons for undo & redo, one for moving the image around. As I start to build up a regular workflow I'll then setup the other buttons, maybe for brush size as that's one thing I seem to be more aware of now.

Here (http://wiki.cgsociety.org/index.php/Suggested_Wacom_Tablet_Setup)'s my complex but very useful setup. I have an Intuos3 4x5, which only has one set of ExpressKeys and one TouchStrip. Configuring all the hotkeys I use for painting onto the tablet keys was difficult but well worth the time spent. Now I can switch between the Brush, Eyedropper, Zoom, Hand, Move, Smudge, and Eraser tools without ever touching the keyboard or clicking the toolbox; I can flip the canvas horizontally; I can open the color picker; I can duplicate a layer and move the duplicate; I can change brush sizes; I can restore default colors or switch foreground and background colors; I can Step Backward; I can go to Actual Pixels (100% zoom); I can toggle the visibility of the palettes. Getting used to the setup didn't take long, and it's a lot of fun to use. I highly recommend it, even if you have a larger tablet with eight ExpressKeys and two TouchStrips. It's nice to have all the common functions in one place.

Just asking because you adjust some shortcuts what in ps7 isn't possible :( The link also didn't worked. I am pretty fine with my setup just some buttons more on the wacom would be good :)

Well, I don't know version 7 too well, but make sure you look through all the items on the pull-down menu in the keyboard shortcut dialog box. And the link still works just fine for me...try again, maybe?

I must admit I find the slider + buttons a bit of a wasted effort. Since I'm blocking the tablet with one hand (the one that's holding the pen), I can't really get to them with my other anyway - and the other hand is always resting on the keyboard where I can get to any key I need anyway. So my setup is 'all disabled' :o)

in PS7 there isn't any as far as I know. Thats the reason I looked for this tool datameister posted but how you said the link doesn't work :(
Could you show me how I can set up brush size for PSCS by touch strip. I've looked at the funtion and only seen "Scroll, auto zoom, keystrokes, zoom and Disable", that's it :| I couldn't set up brush size :|
Thank you.

If you go and check edit>keyboard shortcuts you can find that the increase brush size is ] and decrease brush size is [. I've tried adding this to the strip but when I add it it shows up at Alt gr + 8/9, I think if you change the key bound to increase/decrease to another key (such as g,h,u or whatever keys you use seldom/never) it will work.
Edit1: tested it, works as a dream. Btw, you will find the "increase/decrease brush" under 'tools' on the roll menu.
now I know, thank you.
I've chosen Keystrokes then I've chosen Touch Strip up for key ] and down for [. Now everything works fine to me. Thank you.
