This is an experimental animation which was produced with 3ds max and the classical scanline renderer without any plugins, just standard particles. The animation was rendered around 4000x700px resolution. You can find some more info at

Hey man just saw the movie. It's really cool. I luv ur animation and the particles.

It's got a certain mood to it. very well done.

is this being played at the buildings in the photo on ur website? it would be really cool to see it on a huge screen.

I used to play with particles but coming from non programing background I hit a wall and I stopped playing with it. Looking at something like this makes me to start playing with it again.

Did u use script and expressions to control the particles? or just pure forces...?

Actually there will be another work from me screened on these screens which in Dallas. The "Tofu" Animation is just an experiment, it is not sure if it will be screened there some day.

I used 3ds max standard particle and standard forces, no scripting and no particle flow. The particle animation is not very tricky, it's just some deflector bouncing and switching on and off between different forces. The motion of the vector trails is an animated deforming noise. More tricky is the resolution, because I first rendered the whole animation with around 4000px width and then split it up into 4 parts for the 4 screens. The lighting was done using arrays of lights with soft shadowmaps, which gives some diffuse feeling and renders fast. In After Effects I added some depth of field and color manipulations.
