Hello everyone!

First of all, I'm a total newbie and just try to become familiar with Lightwave3D. My version is 7.0!

So I'm just doing some tutorials. Somehow I have a problem which is not described in the tutorial, and I hope to get some advice here.

This is what I want to do:
http://mysite.freeserve.com/lightwave/Pen/Image11.jpg

And this is what I got:
http://www.nut-shell.com/~josh/Upload/files/Problem1.jpg

You see that my thing somehow is not 3dimensional and some parts are missing? I used the pen tool to create my shape and then extruded the whole thing.
Which I want to do now is to do a boolean but he keeps telling me that:

"Unable to regenerate contour
This may be caused by highly non planar polygons, or by ambiguous overlap between polygon edges and the cutting tool. Triple non planar polygons or add a small offset to data and try again"

Can anybody help me here please?
Thanks in advice

Hit f to flip the polygons..

The bolean-tool can be a little buggy sometimes, but in your "what i want to do"-image there seems to be nothing that is boleaned.

Anyhoo, the only thing that majorly differs between the both images is that in the one you have got, the polygons of the thingy above the cylinder is fased the wrong way.
Select those polys and press f. Now you will have it like in the "what I want to do"-image

also upgrade to 7.5 for free. it has loads more tools and improvements over 7.

and you will find that booleans are very finicky in lw... better off building these odd shapes manually.

Make sure u are in the right layer when u want to bolean...

Also make sure the "cutting" object is wider then the cylinder.

First of all thank you so much for your advice!

Now everything looks so like in the what "I want to do image".
The problem is that if I want to perform a boolean so that it looks like this:

http://mysite.freeserve.com/lightwave/Pen/Image12.jpg

, he keeps telling me the former described error. What could be the problem???

Thanks in advice
