I've got a dual 867, and i've order lightwave. As far as i know the only problems you might have are if you got an ati card in it ( i opted for the ati ) i guess it makes the grid dissappear sometimes. I'll find out right away though, should be getting it delivered real soon...
Let me know your experiences..i.e some benchmarks too.

I have a dual ghz here. What scenes do you want benchmarked?
I was planning on doing 18 tests from a selection of the benchmark scenes on the default install. Should have results in a week or so.
My estimation is however...that it'll be slower then the slowest athlon in the lab.
Don't worry about whats happening on the pc side. Im more interested in the "total" experience of macs.
Could you do some raytracing benchmarks and whatever else newtek adds in the folder.
Say about 3 benches.
Also guys state your configs.

Will do. Won't be able to do it until wednesday though. My dongle and Mac CD are at home. (At work right now).
Specs for the machine are....
Dual Ghz G4.
512 Megs of PC2700 DDR
Radeon something or other.
Latest OS 10.2.X
(Pic of it)
And as to the PC debate...you don't have to use the pc's as your primary workstation, but you could build 4-5 athlon render boxes for the price of a second dual g4...all of which would be about equiv in speed...(or faster)something to think of if your going to be doing alot of animation.

You have any trouble getting the Dongle detected under OS X? I'm having some issues with it on the Dual G4. Any suggestions?

Here's some prelim data. Still rendering as we speak...
resolutions are...NTSC (D1), WEB (1024x768) and FILM (2048x1536). Time is in SECONDS.
21.3* (Have to recheck this one, someone spill coffee on it)
Doing raytrace right now, and proceeding down the benchmark scenes list. Will also probably pick one or two hefty scenes from the remaining disk scenes.
Dual 1000 G4
512 megs of PC2700 DDR
166 Megahertz FSB
Radeon something or other...
OK cool some benches.
Now would like ppl with the newer 1.25 to post same benches to compare.
GregHess what raytrace incursion do u have it set on?
Default 16 or something lower?

I am only opening the scenes, setting the res to one of the three mentioned, changing threads to 2, and hitting render current frame.
I have more scores, but I left the sheet at work. Can enter it in on friday morning, if I don't get snowed in.
If you give me settings to try on any of the included lightwave scenes on the 7.5 disk, I'll be happy to render them for you.
I also have similar scores for a few of the pc's if your interested. More interesting then I thought :).
Ahh yes sounds good, if u did the same scores on the pc we could get a fair idea. I might do some scores with my current mac to match yours..

Dual 2.8 Xeon with Hyperthreading Enabled....(Boxxtech S5i)
Windows XP SP1
Its actually pretty impressive how fast the Mac is, considering the rather massive clock speed gap.
Will be testing on the MP system soon, early results from a 1900+ MP are significantly slower then the xeon though...
Additionally I did not run the benchmarks on the G4 with 8 threads as newtek suggests, but with 2 instead, so I'll adjust that the next time I have the mac available. I also have another five scenes tested, both HT and non HT, but left the damn mac scores at work. (Where the machine is located)....will update as I get them.
