View Full Version : Making Real Smoke Effect

I have some problems here.
I'm trying to put some digital fluid smoke in a real scene inside a car.
Below I attach the image in which I have to reproduce a pipe smoke moving slowly trough the whole space of the car.
It has to look like the one that the actor is blowing in the picture below.
I've been trying with several methods (Smoke effect, multipoints, etc) in order to make it look real but none of them fulfilled me.
Another important thing is that the particles have to interact with the actor's movements and collide with the structure of the car.
It doesn't matter if it seems to be a little unreal because the scene is thought to be a bit odd.
I think using rotoshapes might be an appropiated way to design different levels (Behind and over the actors)
Well, if anyone has any idea which could help me I'd be very grateful.

Sebastian,

I think you must try to doit with sprites. For the interaction with the actor movement, you can use fields and for the collision with the car, you can use some collision objects or some volume fields.

Yes, I've been trying with all those things but still I can't hit the nail on the head...
Something more specific? I have like "spots" of smoke isolated from each other. And I need towards the end of the scene the smoke to fill all the place without lacks of consistence. The car windows are closed so the idea is that the smoke covers all the car from the inside.

Thanks...
Then I'll post some images of what I could do, but its consistence doesn't look fine.

to get better interaction with fluids you can use a motion field. But beware, the motion field will surround the object, and may produce an unexpected shape. To get around this use multiple if neccesary, or use a very simple shape.

Select the fluid, then the object you want to use as a motion field, then select Fluids < make motion field.

This technique combined with fields should give you more control.

Motion Field.. I've also tried it.

Well, tomorrow I'll post what i've done and if you can help me with more advice would be great!
Thanks lustbreker...

Well,
here is a demonstration of what I could do...
If someone could help with any opinion...
(I think it doesn't look enough "stetic" as a real smoke)

It depends on the look you are after, maybe keep the disippation very low on the density and add some velocity swirl (and possibly a little turbulance, a little goes a long way) to mix things up a little so that you have thick and thin areas of smoke.

Maybe increase your density scale as well..

Aha.. that's a good piece of advice, I'll try it and then I tell you how it worked, Thanks a lot! ;)
