Hello everyone. It's a bit intimidating posting onto these forums as there is so much fantastic artwork everywhere, but I figured I might as well jump right in and get some feedback on my latest image.

It's a self portrait, but also an excercise in skin tones, lighting, mood etc. Basically I just wanted to try and improve as an artist and get some feedback (positive & negative) from the pro's here on this forum. How should I crop this image? or is it ok as it is? Does the skin tone, anatomy and clothing look correct?

Also being new here, could anyone give me advice on whether it's worth me setting up a gallery on-line here at CGSociety?

Thanks. Mark Brooks.

HI Mark

Welcome! I can't comment much because to be honest you are a far better painter than I :-). I'd definitely set up a gallery here if I were you. Overall, I just love this image, especially the expression on the face.

Having said that, I think the eye on the right of the image is a bit high compared to the other - I cut and pasted in photoshop to drop it a tad (maybe 1/4"). Of course, I could be completely wrong...

this looks very nice, and you should definitely make a portfolio here on cgtalk! i love the eyes, and the mood seems to be an "uneasy" one, not sure if you were aiming for that or if it's just my impression. i like the coat but the scarf thing looks a bit flat still, but it may be my (awful) notebook monitor; tends to screw up everything i look at. so all in all great work and get posting, don't be shy :D
