Hi,

i know this has been covered several times before however i have trawled the forum and cannot find the exact info i am after.

basically i need a dv cam for doing some post work, i am aware that renting is an option, however if possable i would like to buy one.

i need a camera that shoots 24p. the panny dvx-100 looks about the best bet, it is still however quite expencive. could anyone tell me if there are now any newer 24p cameras out there that are cheeper?

i am looking at the canon gl2, it does not do 24p, but is this cam going to be any good for fx work?

what about the hd cameras, i have seen some nice footage captured with the hv 10, these all seem to output to mpeg though, is there a way to bypass the mpeg encoder and just capture the uncompressed stills, i am sure that would just be a hack of some kind.

thanks for your time

tak..

I'm not quite sure, but this might be what you're looking for: AG-HVX200 from Panasonic.

It's not cheap ($5,995)- but it's the least expensive I could find that does what you're looking for;
... Standard definition recording formats: 480/60i, 480/24p, 480pA, 480/30p
... High definition recording formats: 1080/60i, 1080/24p, 1080/24pA, 1080/30p, 720p (variable frame rates)

Check it out here:

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=93120&catGroupId=15768&modelNo=AG-HVX200&surfModel=AG-HVX200

Hope this helps!

There is a modification for the DVX-100 called Andromeda (see: www.reel-stream.com). This system will capture uncompressed HD footage. Cool

I've been looking into this as well, and at the moment the cheapest 24p camera I could find was the Panasonic AG-DVX100B. I did read on one site that the Sony DCR-VX2100E was progressive as well, but then this was contradicted by other sites, so not totally sure on that one.

The DVX100 does get some brillaint reviews as well, but as we're nearing the end of the SD era, how long will it before we get HD cameras offering 24p at a similar price?
