SPENEN 02-01-2003, 11:27 AM Aloha there!
This competition was just what i needed =), ive been waiting for a monster challange for a long time =).
Anyway, here is my creature.
I'm currently working on the story, and so far its only a WIP.
He is missing teeths so far, but they are comming, and I'm also going to add some spikes that are coming out from his skin =).
And on his/hers/its left arm you are going to see the bone coma out =).
Also I'm going to aply a bumpmap so that you can see al the scars and veins >) hehe.
I will upload the orginal ,hand painted, picture as soon as my digital camera works. And the textured version is also comming in a while =).

Hi, now ive done a newer version, dunno about the colors, but for now im only conserned about the model.
I think im going to add as much detail as possible, like chains, small scars, and so on =).
Now ive added a belt and some armor

I've added some more stuff now =), excuse me for the bad quality, and that the image is a bit messy.
Anyway, ive added some chains >), thinks it looks quite neat i think =).
There are also some spikes that has pierced the body =), and a spear through his chest. Hmm, I'm going to change the shape of the knife later :)

Finally, my digital camera is working =).
So anyway, here is the concept art.
By the way was this the first model that ive modeled without reference on the computer, I just looked at the picture and modeled, no image planes or so =).
As you might already have noticed it's modeled in Maya, all polygons. Its 28 000 polys *ops  *, before I did a polysmooth on the main model it was about 5000 polys.
By the way, i used poly smooth proxy for the modeling, thats the best with maya 4.5 , I think there wasn't any smooth proxy in 4.0.

Looks intersting! I would just suggest that you make the polies do what you want them too - it looks like pulled polies along the chest, as opposed to skin folding, getting some ref is always fun ;)

Thx =). Hmm, i dont know how to fix so that it looks like skin instead of pulled polys =/. Anyway, maby it'll look better with textures later.

The story:
Sauron wiped out the intire race when he discouvered that they had been lying in hte deepest caves of mordor killing his army one by one. Now there's only one left.
Now he is pissed, angry and has nothing to loose.
He is going after sauron and his armies, and he is going to hunt them down, one by one. :wip:
::Evil Laugh:: HAHAHAHAHAHA ::

I like your head concept. It's very interesting. Picasso interprets Tolkien. :D But one thing that really bothers me are his legs. He looks like he's about to fall over. Considering he has no feet, it looks like he needs one or more legs to balance himself.

THx! =)
Yes, a lot have said that to me, but it's just that i don't know how to fix it =/.
But thx, i will try to think of something else =)

Thats what I call an unique style, keep it up! :buttrock:
Its fun to see someone breaking the ordinary vision of 3d modeling whit an abstract creation like this
this is true art!

Hehe this is the characters ugliest view =), but anyway it looks so flat because his not walking, he's just standing around in his bind position. (Excuse me if I call him he, but it's the most simple that way =), it could as much be a she or it).

Finaly, I managed to texture it, pheu, it's not my strongest side =D.
Anyway, here is the link http://213.66.208.141/grym.jpg
(It's 1600*1200 132kb jpeg)
I didn't wanto ruin the picture by scaling it down, you'll understand =), it just don't look good in 640*480 =D
I'm going to rerender it tomorrow, and make the shadows in the grass more ovious, and scale down the tranclucement map, + add DOF =).
PLZ Comment =)

Something is wrong with eye texture....does not look good;)
Maybe render and texture him in more 'picassish' style, I mean more like drawing than clean rendering ?:bounce:

Yes I know, but I really don't know how to make it look better, maby add some glow to the eyes?
How do you mean picassish style? Do you mean that it would look cool with a cartoon shader? =D

Toonshaders usually don't give desired effect:hmm: But by using some hand-painted textures You can achieve more 'painterly' look. I'm not saying it's easy, but possible;)

ok =), I would have tried that if my texturing skills were better  , ah anyway I'll maby do that with my next character =) thx
