Nice model, but i think the bottum needs some work. Mainly where the wood turns into metal, you have it as a gradual change, and i think it would look better with the metal distinctly coming away from the wood.

feathers are too clean and shiny the color on them get worn like shirts there also not fine feathers by this time the clup together in some areas with open cuts and such, like if they were wet..hope that helps keep us posted...

as far as the actual hatchet part...start with a clean metal shader (not the dull realtime look you have now) then layer some dirt or rust on it...

try this out for size... http://www.doschdesign.com/infobase/DT-TA-Tutorial.pdf

Cool model. I like the blade/head alot-form and texture wise. The fine end of the blade where it gleams could use some dirtying up. Lord Ezzat gave good advice on the feathers I thought. Separte the individual feathers into clumps and maybe frizz them alittle, like split ends sorto of look. Overall, if you're going with the old look, make it as gritty and weathered as you can( chips in the wood, eroded handle, corrosive patterns on the metal maybe.
