View Full Version : Summer Sky
Arney 09-29-2006, 10:09 PM Hello all. I am a long time viewer of these forums and admire all the great work some of the users have done. I finally decided to buy a tablet and attempt my own drawings and art. I really like it and I hope to get better with your help. This is basically the first drawing/painting I've attempted with the exception of a few little sketches to get used to the tablet. Any crit would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Arney and welcome to CGtalk.
Great first attempt. I like the contrast. The clouds could use some detail and fluffyness as well as stmosphere to show distance. If you did such a kick ass job on your first attempt , I can't wait to see what you unleash once you get some practice in. Keep painting , only good will come of it.

thanks alot. I'm not too sure how I can add depth and detail to the clouds, do you have any ideas?

Wow...I wish my first attempt was this good. I'm just wondering if the horizon shapes are on a different layer, if so I think it might be worth viewing without them, just to see. The clouds are excellent and have that lovely dusk feeling about them. Great work.
After saying that, perhaps you're not finished on these shapes and I'm being a little premature, if so (And even if not) I look forward to an update.
P.S. Remember, save before big changes...Oh the memories :)

This is a good start. Depth comes from the illusion of space and believable form. I suggest studying clouds (both real and from photos) and trying to bring what you learn into the is piece. You might also want to check out this Steven Stahlberg tutorial:

I look forward to seeing this image progress!

thanks for the feedback. thats an awesome tutorial, although I don't quite have the touch yet to be able to make the clouds look good. And as far as my drawing goes, I'm still blocked as to what I could do to it. I was thinking of somehow icorperating the ideas in that tutorial but it wouldn't work in this drawing because of the perspective. Perhaps I should have posted this in it's earlier form? But I only spent a little less than an hour on it so It would have been too late by the time I got feedback. I guess I'm stuck with the results I have now. Thanks for the crit though and encouragement!
