Hi All

I was thinking about making some bird characters for some animated short. I just dint want to texture it, but add some realism in it's looks. How Do I add feathers on the bird. I tried using a single instance and then used geometryPaint. Then I tried the Geometry contraint for each feather. Both had some drawbacks like. The geometry Paint didnt work on Polygons (as I was modelling in polygons for faster interaction furing animation and other control) and the geometry contraint was displacing the feathers very weirdly, once the parent mesh was rotated or skinned. Is there any way I could get along with this and some good feathers and texture it well. I also tried extruding the edges and texturing them, which I found in one tutorial. But the overall look was nasty. All these tests were done or mere primitives to get the feel. U guys have any ideas???

Thanks
Rakesh

I think that there is a tutorial over 3dTotal for making a bird using polygon modelling but it could be very mush the one you mentioned earlier

Here's a link to the Jackal's Forge site. I've refered to this site a long time ago whne I was doing a bird model in Maya. Just browse the site for the feather tutorial.

I'm also trying to have feathers on a nurbs surface, using geometry paint. They are pretty well contrained to the surface and act and react pretty well. AS my model is a polygon based, I used a nurbs proxy for feathers and fur. On the way will come up with some renders.

Thanks
