I just upgraded to 10.4.8 and there is a tremendous speedup in OpenGL op my G5 dual 2.5 (ATI X800) from 1974 to 2898 (5.32 > 7.78 speedup)! I'm now off to upgrade my Quad G5 so it's partytime!! No it's not. Read my edit >

EDIT: I just upgraded my G5 quad and didn't get any speedup. Did I dream this? Anyone else having good results or is this just a dumb thread and am I messing things up here. :(

I just loaded 10.4.8 to my quad G5, and Cinebench is the same - in fact 1 or 2 ticks lower in a few places

maybe ATI just improved their drivers to where they should have been. the nvidia drivers have always been much closer to what the PC's have been (at least the past couple releases)

...Anyone else having good results...

Howdy ooo - had a jump too, from ~2700 to ~2900 with a dual G5 2.7GHz (ATI9650). Sounds like there was a driver problem with your X800 before though, that score of 1974 you were getting is pretty mediocre.

(Edit: the speed jumped on my laptop too (MacBookPro/ATIX1600), which is now scoring around 3050 (from 2500). Nice!)

Cheers - Chris

Thanks for posting Chris. So i wasn't dreaming. My quad does indeed have an nVidia card so that explains why only the dual with Ati card got that bump. Seems indeed like an upgraded Ati-driver like Dann wrote.

My ATI 9600 didn't see a speed bump so maybe it's just the X??? series drivers. I wonder what we will see with the X1900 XT's in the MacPro's now. First look was pretty disappointing compared to the base nVidia 7300's... anyone have benchmarks from 10.48 with the new hardware?

i'm sure they aren't doing any more development of a card like the 9600 that is a couple years old. seems the cycle of upgrade gets shorter and shorter.
