Steen,
Great to see you've started up a thread - I was just about to suggest it. :)
Since you are working with charcoal, I really recommend Glenn Vilppu's DVDs (http://www.vilppustudio.com/dvd.htm) - he's a master at breaking down form in a clear structural and artistic way.
I look forward to seeing how you progress in your class - if you wanted to tell us something about your arts background that would be helpful. Hopefully you'll get the opportunity to look around at others' threads and contribute comments; you'll receive the favor in return. :)
With respect to your drawings, you have a nice touch - the main thing I would suggest is not being too timid about crossing the form instead of drawing up one side and down the other - really try to get the rhythm of the figure going and think in terms of spheres / blocks / and planes when breaking the figure down. I highly recommend in between drawing sessions to try master copies from this ongoing Workshop:
Anatomy Lesson Series: Body Part 2 - The Torso (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=405198)
Doing master copies will tremendously reinforce and bolster what you are doing when you go to draw from a live model. I cannot recommend the practice enough.
Cheers,

Rebecca, thanks for the reply. I enjoyed drawing last night. I was actually using a conte pencil, and on the last one I used a dark graphite pencil. I'll have to check out the Vilppu DVD. I did have his drawing manual with me to stare at between poses. He came to visit once when I was in school and tought my figure class for a day. He's very inspiring.
As far as background on myself, I graduated from Ringling with a BFA in computer animation. I currently model 3d objects for a small software company. I've been looking at a lot of concept art and character modeling work lately, and it has inspired me to improve my skills.
Probably the biggest area that I feel I could improve in is figurative art, so thats how I ended up in the anatomy thread. :)
I did one master copy from your workshop a couple of weeks ago. I'll see if I can post it in this thread later. I think it will be the first of many.
I will keep your suggestions in mind. Thanks for being so helpful.

I was looking at Vilppu's site. Those DVD's are kinda pricey. I was wondering if you knew if there was some way to rent these. If I did purchase one, which do think I would benefit from the most?

I got to another figure session today. Here's what I came up with.

This one was more like five min. instead of 1.

Conte Stick

30 min. Graphite pencil. Should've resolved proportions before working into it. I struggled a bit with this one. Angle of shoulders vs. pelvis was interesting but tricky.

I've been working pretty small so far (11x14). Easy to scan but hard to step back from. Next time I think I'm going to work larger.
