Hi guys, i'm new here, so don't be too cross ok? This is in fact my first serious model...Never done anything like that before, so it's still pretty buggy...this is what i've made so far...making clothes at the moment

You're right it needs more work, but very nice for your first girl model, my first was not as good

for a first serious project, I'm really impressed. You can compare to mine, if you like, at my link. I don't have any crits, except that something seems funny around the stomach... and the head is good, better than mine, except some features seem really pronounced. It's good though, I think it's really impressive.

Heh...you know what...i also used Joan of Arc tutorial to model the body...but then as you can see i changed almost everything...As for the hands, i used my own ones as a reference...so i did with the ears

Don't say that's your first one! Gack!!! :argh:

Looking great, truly-- I especially like the outline of the hips, and her hands, and the area around her armpit, chest, and collarbones is simply wonderful. Her breasts are actually convincing, and she has such lovely arms! Her proportions are great, really appropriate for a small, realistically shaped woman... except for her pelvic region.

There's some problems with the joint along her hips-- the rise is at too shallow of an angle, her crotch needs to be lower, and likewise there should be more real estate in the back yard, so to speak. Her navel needs to be lower too-- it should sit at about the same height as her hipbones.

Her legs have a nice overall shape, but they're too thin near the knees, and the knees themselves could use some more detail. Basically, take the thicker curves of her thighs and scoot that whole section -down- towards her knees to make room for the longer pelvic region.

Her feet need to be bigger, too. Generally speaking, a person's foot is the same length as their forearm from elbow to wrist.

There's also a problem with her ribcage-- the breasts and the upper part of her chest are great, but that weird pointy divot just below them has got to go. The solar plexus isn't even that high, the sternum should come down lower, and the hollow beneath it should be soft and rounded.

Now, for the head... I think her neck might be a bit too thin, and there's always room for improvement in the face-- show us a wire of that head, and we can really get down to business!!

I gotta repeat the sentiments of Gnarly - This is your first head??? Holy Moley - this is looking good!

I like the look of the head so far - may I just make a suggestion for the eyes? You might want to make the iris boundary with the sclera (white of the eye) less sharp - on most eyes this is usually a bit fuzzy and this effect can be achieved with a basic transparency map.

I really like what you've done with the ball of the nose and you've included the lines of the mouth barrel! This is great!

Again, as Gnarly says, it would be nice to see a wire - I'm particularly interested in seeing a wireframe of the head from both front and profile views to see how she's put together.

Well done with the work so far - she's looking like a work to be proud of :applause:

and yes, this is my very first attempt to model a human head/body, she is the 3rd character i've ever made, and i've never done any uvw unwrapping before...and also i have no idea how to animate her, but i will animate her...hehe...and thanks for the support and the crits, although i don't agree with some of them, cuz lots of features, like the size of feet/whatever are very personal...but still thanks a lot

...well this is the great thing about this kind of forum - you can get C&C but you don't necessarily have to take it all on-board. I respect Gnarly a lot because he has a great knowledge of anatomy which does show in his posts, but then not everyone is aiming for the heights of totally anatomically and proportionally correct modelling - its nice to see people just enjoying themselves modelling and having fun with what they produce.
Thanks for the wireframes as well. As I mentioned before, the head looks great to me - I think I would be clutching at straws to find faults with it. :applause:

Hiya olga8515, your model is turning out well! Very impressive especially considering this is your first human model! :)

Ahh, I remember my own first attempts to model a head a few years ago, in fact, that was the first thing I tried modeling, without properly understanding the tools, no knowledge of edgeloops, etc... needless to say, I didn't get anywhere with my first attempts, doh :p

Oopsie! Sincerest apologies to gnarly - didn't realise! So difficult with these online names to tell gender.

@olga - thanks for the wires - any chance of wires of the body too?

gnarlycranium

Ahah! Wires! That head looks top notch-- topology and everything... except the area around the mouth seems a bit odd. I'm not an animator yet, so I can't say if it'll give you problems, but the high density on the cheeks, and then lower density around the mouth... shouldn't it be more the other way around? You might need another loop around the mouth, not sure. Can't help you with the mapping issue either... never done it. I think the back of the skull might benefit from more volume, to scoot the ear back a bit and give the jaw more room... but you people know how I am about Cranial capacity. :D

Stop saying that!! Aighhhh!!!! Lie and say you've been practicing for 10 years! You're Syomka's sidekick or something! Just say it!

That's why I said 'generally speaking' and not 'MAKE IT LIKE THAT NOW OR DIE! DIIIIIIE!' ;)

Very true-- but this model is the closest I've seen to that in quite a while! She's not 10 feet tall with lopsided watermelons strapped to her chest! I think she'd look truly awesome with a rear end and legs/feet to match the realism in her upper body and overall height.

No apology necessary. After all, you can't SEE me. :p Besides, that bit about me having good anatomy knowledge was such a nice thing for you to say! :D

Thanks for going to the trouble of posting the wireframes, Olga. Like the head, the wireframe for the body is nice and clean and has just the right amount of detail to show the various curves.

What kind of texture are you going for here - will you be going for the old photorealistic skin or something different? Will you be clothing her too?

This is fantastic work  I can't really find fault with it as a model. :applause:

To fallenswordsman: she is clothed already, i guess i uploaded the clothed pic on the last page in the message where i said i'd finished the model...The textures...well...not sure about the whole body, but i'll definitely use photos for her hands...i wish i had a digicam...arrgh...i can't scan my whole body, right? hehe

Sorry Olga - I was so fascinated with the meshes that I forgot you stuck clothes on earlier.

As for hand textures - you could just scan your hand - there is also Bill Fleming's tutorial here:

Best of luck with it

To FallenSwordsman, i did scan my hand, in fact, i used my hands as a reference when i modelled my girl's hands, so her hands are almost a copy of my own ones... thanks a lot for the tutorial...never seen it before...any more interesting tuts? cause i know very littrle about the whole 3d stuff actually
To SARC oh my, such words...:) now if only i could study 3d in a college...there's nothing like that in my area:cry:

The only other useful thing I can recommend for textures is:

http://www.3d-station.com/Tutoriaux/tutoriaux.php?id=13

Its in French but you can transtlate it via an online translator or just look at the pretty pictures :)

what's the online translator? never heard of that...where can i get it?

Olga-

Don't be too hard on yourself - your worst critic can often be yourself. The face itself looks fine so you've got a good base to get started from. I think the main problem with the hair at the moment is its multi-colouredness - its difficult to see exactly whats going on there with so many colours.

It looks like you're experimenting a bit too at the moment, the dark frizzy looking hair under her right ear (our left) looks a bit out of place compared to her normal soft straight hair. Give some thought into how the hair is combed into the style you want as well. I'm no great shakes with hair combing as I don't have much of it myself, so I can't really suggest any particular technique.

Overall though, she's looking good and she's coming along well.
