View Full Version : insert cg objects in a photograph
silvia 09-28-2006, 08:00 PM Hi all,
I realize this is a terrible newbe question, but please bear with me...
Do you know of any tutorial that explains how to match CG geometry to a photograph? I need to match the camera angle, lens, etc to fit CG elements in a photograph, but it is difficult when you don't know any measurements of the place where the photo was taken, or the camera settings. Any ideas?
Thank you

You should pick up a copy of this book:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Matchmoving-Invisible-Art-Camera-Tracking/dp/0782144039/ref=sr_11_1/202-6829448-9817464?ie=UTF8
He's got some good advice for matching locked off shots as well as how to achieve good 3D-tracking using popular matchmoving tools.

hi,
Tim's book(arvid mentioned) has this as his first exercise And there's buttt loads more to learn from that book.
The basic approach he adopted(depends on the pic ) was to make an assumption of how high off the ground the camera was,Then the lens,Distance of bldg to the cam,how high each level in the bldg was(to approx the height of the bldg) etc.
create a proxy geometry, attach a null to one of the korners and have your free cam link to it.
from there on you work with more gusses and zero in on a solution.
thanks for sharing your knowledge on the MR front silvie :)
