Hi folks, does anyone know how to make a particle fade out rather than simply switch off when it reaches the end of its life? (in XSI)

Heya Nick, what you would have to do is:

In Particle_Type -- Rendering Properties

you can animate the RGB/ALPHA over the timeline, the important thing here is to change the "Animation Reference RGB/ALPHA" to age instead of birth (for the effect you want... fading off over time.)

This means that if you create two keyframes, one at 1 (color red) and one at 100 (color blue or transparent), and u select age in the "Animation Reference RGB/ALPHA" your particles will change from red to blue/transparent over time, but due to the particles age... they-ll smoothly fade to the color u choose :)

thats 1 to 100 regardless of your actual timeline right? What if my timeline goes from 1001 to 1200 for example?
