View Full Version : Environment: Mountain Village
Sean Johnston 02-01-2003, 03:51 AM I drew my inspiration from that one "Son Tots" cartoon (or whatever show...remember, with the smoogies? I really don't remember much of it. I was young and it was pukeable environmentalist propaganda) from the early 90s. I just remembered how it was kinda cool how they relied on wind etc. for power (I don't know why it popped in my head. I was probably thinking about the Ninja Turtles and I remembered that annoying show that was on afterward). Anyways, there is a reason why it looks unfinished, I gave up on it. The scene file was causing me a lot of problems (I was surprised I got this render out of it. It started as a Max 4.2 file and I finished it in Max 5. Could that have anything to do with it?). Anyhoo, I guess I'll just throw this out...

Wow, it looks like something straight out of FF. Everything seems a little flat though, more shadows and depth maybe a bight too bright. The modeling is excellent though, just work on the lighting.

Yep, looks like a painting and less of a 3D image because it's blown out, the contrast is too high, I believe. You can either rerender or just photoshop, though rerendering would be better! Looks very cool though!

Ack, it does look like something from FF. I guess it tells you that I've played too much FF in my lifetime ;)

Heh, Nice Image, I like everything except the ground.
For me it looks just a little bit too flat for a mountain village. I'd add some little hills and bumps, maybe grass and a muddy path connecting the buildings
I would even make the ground a green meadow, and maybe add a little river and a bridge to cross it
Uh and considering the lightning: I'd think about wether that's an overcast sky (the sky and bg, including the buildings in the bg look like it) or sunshine (as the bright areas and shadows on the buildings in the front and also the shadows of the buildings in the back on the ground suggest).

I say like Stratobrain, the ground do look to flat, almost as if it didnt fit to those veeery nice buildings =).
Maby it'll do if you added som distortion to the ground, maby a displacement map or so.
One other thing is the sky, if I were you I would have made it bluer, if you do that it will look more like a fantasy picture , and you'll se the fans on the roofs better.
Very beautiful pic, good inspiration =)
