2d/3d mix stood out maybe a bit to much for my liking at times. other then that i really liked it, really pulled me in and i loved the long sweeping shots.

ok i hate to be the one to say it. but photo real 3d and 2d cell just does not look good togather. now don't give me wrong.
i'm all for using 3d and 2d togather but not when theirs is so much contrast between the two.
i mean some of the scene are just ruined when you have this super cool looking 3d Background with a lot of depth and then you paste this flat ass image.
hope fully this movie will have a good story and not just realy on eye candy (titan ae, spirits within).
my 2 cents ya'll.
cheers,
Los.

those are miniatures..not digital 3d models
theres not all that much actual 3d in there.
i think the contrast is good. brings the characters out. its just like classical animation. the backgrounds would be detailed..painted nicely...while characters are simple..its just like the good ole days..except it seems to be more dynamic now.

I kinda agree with you, ambient.
They spent a lot of money and time on the miniature set..
but I think, we have to say that some of those 2D/3D/miniature scenes look just too obvious.
However, it still is a great piece for sure.

hmm,
i always thought that if anything the detail should be added to those things that the director wants you to focus on.
if you look at most 2d animations, must of the detail is put on the characters sence those are the ones that the audiance realy conects with.
i'm not disagreeing with you, but i think having real looking backgrounds and 2d characters is just two distracting.
visual inconsitency seem to distract me form enjoying the story,
i'm probably just to geeky, for this kind of thing.
don't give wrong dogh if this thing has a good story, it could be great!!!

surely if you take most disney films (or anime, for that matter) as examples, the backgrounds are far more detailed than the characters. they are painted and use complex lighting and tone, whereas the characters are a much more simplified version of this.
it's this simplicity (along with movement of course) that draws your eyes to them.

my views on the animation
they're trying to achieve a type of contrast where simple characters become the focal point against highly detailed and realistic looking objects. imagine charlie brown looking characters living among us.
and like i asked before "when does this movie come out???"

Wow. That looks like a cool movie, however, I agree with Carlos - I'm not particularly fond of cell animation mixed with photorealism (or minatures or whatever). I just don't find that there is any visual flow. The contrast between the two makes it difficult to immerse yourself into the movie.
However, I disagree with his statement about focus. Most of the time, it is the background that has the detail and the characters that have little detail. It's easier for the animators, and you really don't need to add detail to draw the viewer's attention - motion and lighting does an effective job.
With that said, this movie still looks extraordinary and is one that I am looking forward to watching. (wow, 2003 is a BIG year for cool movies!!! or should I say potentially cool movies)[B]
reminds me of what they did in Titan AE. The combination always seems odd to me when I first see it. Then again, Wonderful Days intergrate the two more than in previous movies i've seen. The fog and lighting obscures the characters as if they are part of the scene and not on top of it...

Hey guys,
I'm heading to the Jeoung Ju film festival in S. Korea over the weekend, and although it's still up in the air as to wether Wonderful Days will be playing, I do have an interview setup with one of the film makers, and hopefully a screening. Either way, I'm pumped up about this film :bounce:
I'll keep you posted.
