I've never liked halo, but regardless . . . . this sounds like more red-tape for those who will be developing Halo.

Based on this article, it seems like it will be based in NZ, and probably Wellington, to be close to PJ.

Haha, all the New Zealanders flock into this thread.

Good news really. I say Auckland would be a good spot... (Wellingtonians, zip it! :) )

Hmm, personaly I'd rather have him invest his time in directing compelling character driven stories with meaning then setting up the next genre tight shoot 'em to pieces nonsense. Somebody should call him for 'The Hobbit'.

Go PJ, go. Sweet, I imagine he will add some real substance to his fantasy/sci-fi games, just like his movies.

I would die to work at weta, but then I'd be dead, so....

There's no question that the arrangement with Jackson and Walsh, who collaborated on the wildly popular "Lord of the Rings" trilogy (http://news.com.com/Rings+video+games+in+the+offing/2110-1043_3-5803272.html?tag=nl) (also produced in New Zealand), and who are known for innovative storytelling, is a coup for Microsoft. The software giant has been putting a great deal of effort into differentiating its Xbox offerings from the forthcoming Sony PlayStation 3 (http://news.com.com/Sony+unveils+PS3+pricing%2C+release+dates/2100-1043_3-6069994.html?tag=nl) and Nintendo Wii (http://news.com.com/Nintendo+Revolution+renamed+Wii/2100-1043_3-6065801.html?tag=nl) next-generation consoles.

While it's unknown how the market will respond to the PS3 or the Wii, it is clear that Microsoft has not been standing pat on its year head-start in the next-generation console wars. Since its November launch of the Xbox 360 (http://news.com.com/Xbox+360+makes+desert+debut/2100-1043_3-5963915.html?tag=nl), Microsoft has been putting a lot of effort into bolstering its Xbox Live offerings, its accessories and the overall number of games available.

Do I dare do it?

There, I did it.

I think this is good and interesting news (how could it be bad news? :P)
It seems Jackson is a bit of an X-Box head :D When he said he was a Halo fan, I thought he played all sorts of consoles. He may do, I dunno. I hope when the Wii hits New Zealand he gets some really nice concepts regarding the control system and blows us away with some amazing game (and hopefully Microsoft won't empede on that; I don't think he would let them anyway) That man has done so much for his country in terms of economy, exposure, employment...cool guy :D

I knew I should've said Hi and chat him up when I used to see him on the street in his shorts.
