osamarasheed 09-27-2006, 01:58 PM hello all
i had problem now i didnt notice it while i am shoting and in the editing i just noticed it and it is:
i shot alrady in Panasonic dvx 100a, and in the same time sony pd150, the first in 24p and the second normal pal "50i" but not this the problem!
the problem is the first one shots in 16/9 as leter box, and the other is 16/9 as pixal accept retio, and we working know in the post production and in the end we wanna to print the film in 35mm film to show it in cinema.
so how could it be solved??
hope you can help me

Ouch! Is there a chance you could do a reshoot? Honestly that would be you're best option. Essentially the stuff recorded in letterbox will be 25% less resolution than the pixel squeezed shots. The only other option besides a reshoot would be crop the black bar out, but then you're going to loose vertical resolution, then it would be re-squeezed if you were to edit it in the same format as the other stuff which would lower your horizontal resolution... not by much, but a little. Essentially what you're doing is taking your letterboxed footage into a 16:9 format and zooming in so the letterbox is gone. Either way it's going to look alot softer compared to the other footage. Wish you the best.

thanks alot for your reply
but the proplem is it is documanteryfilm in the medil east, the second camera was "sony" was shoting the details of the interviews, so if i most shot again it mean everything whcih it is not able to shot 120 hours again in 5 countrys in the midel east again!
and i wanna to make the leter box is standerd and the sony 16:9 as a seconed camera and covert it to fit with the letter box format, i mean not to convert letter box to 16:9 format, coz i wanna to print it in 35mm film in the end.
hope youcangie advice even it is littil bit expinsive!
thanks

I would uprezz the shots in a compositing program such as After effects or Shake. This will give you a better "up rezzed" image than most editors will. It should also give you interpolation options whether to sharpen uprez etc (I think just shake will give you that option not AE). There are various plugins/standalone softwares that will also uprez chroma channels. But those get pretty pricey. I've not used any of them so I can't say anything about them. It's a last resort option but it sounds like it's your only option. Sounds like an interesting documentry. Cheers
