recently everytime i try to make a gradient, or paint with a brush.. I get an ugly stair-step-effect in my colorshifts..
I am using 32-bit colors. I have made a clean reinstall of photoshop(CS2)
I have attached an image of the problem..
anyone? please.. pretty please?

I assume you mean 24 bit color, I don't think there are 32 bit RGB colors that don't have an alpha... 24 bit color only has so many shades, and it's normal to see banding in subtle gradients like those. Check out the red gradient on the CGTalk background, it has some minor banding.

Ah yes sry about that mistake..
After alot of reading I found out that there is banding in some situations, impossible to avoid.. But, possible to reduce. By adding Noise to smooth it out, by not using transparent gradients etc..
I also noticed the banding on cgtalks BG. Strange that something so simple can be so hard to do correct.
I think it might be your monitor of gfx card, as I'm not seeing any banding on your graphic or on the CGTalk background.
