hey all, i am looking for a program with a tool similar to zbrush's zspheres, where i can block out a mesh very quickly and then later sculpt it. but i really do dislike the zspheres in zbrush, are there any programs like this?

I think you might like mudbox. A lot of people seem to say it's like zbrush but more intuitive. I don't know if it is out of beta yet though.

as far as i heard there are only primitives in mudbox, no modeling option, only sculpting.

Modo has a new feature (solid sketch) that's a bit like zspheres but a bit more predictable. It has some presets, but you can make your own arbirtary "armatures"

It's just as easy to block out a subd cage in most modellers these days rather than using a z sphere approach
Personally I'm loving the new Silo2 beta. It's easy to block out a form, it has some nice displacement painting tools and really does feel like sketching in 3d.

Once you have something in the ballpark the re-topologising tools are great. There's a few quirks at the moment in finishing models ( displacement maps and Normal maps have to be created externally)

It really does let you sketch freely to get the "What" and then has plenty of tools to get it. "animation ready"

Here's some quick doodles

hey man, this solid sketch looks great. do you know if there are any videos with examples of what it is capable of?
