I really need help on this. The challenge is that I have till next week to complete this project.

Here's the rundown. The idea is to turn an object (apple) into a whispy smoke, but using 2d softwares (after effects, shake, etc.) and some stock smoke footage. The reason why I need to do it in 2D programs is because of time and the lack of Dynamic knowledge that I have.

Basically an apple appears into a black scene (fadeup) then seconds later it blows away and whisp into the air like smoke.

Well anyways... any type of suggestion or idea is helpful. Thanks.

Sounds like all you need is moving masks (aka roto). Reveal the smoke at the same time that you mask out the apple. You can mask the shape of the smoke to make it fit the edge of the apple, and adjust the smoke color to make it look like it is the color of the apple. Create multiple layers of dissolving action to achieve a feeling of depth. Basically it's a tedious, brute force job.

Eyeon's Fusion or DFX+ can use an image as a particle emitter, you could probably run a mask across the apple image to have it gradually create particles from left-right or whatever you need.
