I assume it's because you admitted to using pirated software

PS, one of the mods of this forum is the creator of the program you pirated, smart move.

Well seeing as how a friend of mine bought the program and installed it when he came over to show me some things, its not pirated, i was just using it to see what it did.

edited: And i guess you assumed that it was "pirated" because i said "no" when you guys asked me if i bought it, nice assumption because its really not pirated

If YOU did not purchase it and are running it on YOUR machine...it's pirated. Regardless of how ligitimate the source of where you got it at.

you cant just "install" it on your own computer.. your friend would have had to call up the company that makes the program, and ask for another license so that you could use it. In your case, it would probably be denied, as your "friend" would assumingly have a license at his place, and the company just doesn't give away licenses all the client's friends for free. Assuming you have it installed on your computer at this point would mean you're using a crack, which is illegal.

So your saying that your friend was kind enough to have his license put on your computer? Even though its a non transferable license? Something just doesnt add up there.

We did this all at a lan party, he had 3dmax 4.2 on a CD as well as Braz, he said he had bought them and they were backups, and he wanted to show me 3dmax basics before i bought the programs, so...i guess that it IS pirated...?

Its very simple... only splutterfish can generate alegal license.

So unless you friend work for splutterfish, I really doubt that its legal.

The awesome pub test 0.4.53 is still available at . . .

no it's not. Splutterfish took it of their site so a direct link to it would be considered illigal too . . . sorry, Equinoxx

hmm bought them and they were backups.. your friend must drive a ferrari 550 too? ;]

No, actually he drives an 01 ZO6 and a 02 M3...

:edit: but i guess thats besides the point, so your saying that its pirated since he instaled it, all i have to do is buy a liscence?

Actually, it's not illegal at all. Splutterfish is distributing the public test, giving out the link and hosting the file themselves. They merely want to reinforce the fact that the public test is not representative of Brazil r/s 1.0. People can get the address for the public test by visiting the Brazil IRC channel linked off http://www.splutterfish.com.

i'm a big fan of being able to test software before buying. But if you want to start working with the software and really need help, I recommend buying the software purely for the manuals.

I realize that many students can not afford it and they are sometimes forced to use pirated software. If you are using pirated version, please try searching the web for help and looking at the online manual before asking rediculously obvious questions that revel that you either do not own the software or are incapable of RTFM.

just my 2 cents.

Hi Equinoxx,

This is Scott from SplutterFish. I'm cool with posting the link to the public test version here - thanx for catching that though - I appreciate the help.

We took the link off our website because it was causing some confusion - people were downloading it thinking it was an eval - we're going to rename it and get it reposted as soon as we get a couple days to breathe :)

That url is also in the splutterfish roadmap at :

Thanx again. sk...
